Technical Service Coatings & Inks EMEA

Overview of position
The individual will support technically the coatings and inks business through the management of customer projects, customer engagements, technical documentation and sharing of technical knowledge. Accountable for solutions of complex customer problems through recommendations of Eastman products in the coatings field, building strong links with customers at the technical level and identifying opportunities for new products and new applications for existing products.

Job responsibilities
•    Comply with all corporate, division, and group safety requirements and demonstrate commitment to continuous safety improvement and model good safety behaviors.
•    Solve customer problems and requests by a combination of approaches – verbal advice, lab-based projects, customer visits and the production of technical documentation.
•    Preparation of laboratory work requests for customer or development projects to determine whether solutions are feasible. Creation of requests to lab technicians, organization of the workflow, overview, product selection, design and communication of reports internally and externally in a timely fashion.
•    Identify new product opportunities or new applications of existing products through customer contact and deep market knowledge that enable coatings formulators to differentiate performance, reduce cost or increase efficiency.
•    Support the development of technical literature, sales tools, presentations and training programs and present internally or at distributors, trade shows and customers.
•    Maintain a strong awareness of new technologies, competitive threats and opportunities and regulatory developments in the coatings and allied fields.
•    Form strong relationships with technical staff at key customers, distributors, trade associations and co-suppliers.
•    Maintain close contact and share information with Application Development and Technical Service teams in Ghent (BE), Kingsport (US) and Shanghai (CN).


Bachelor's Degree required. Master preferred. Degree in coatings, materials or polymer science, chemistry, chemical/materials engineering or related disciplines preferred.
•    +5 years’ experience as Coatings Chemist, Coatings Formulator or Coatings Technical Service in formulation development and testing in the coatings industry either with a coatings or inks producer or a supplier to the coatings or inks industry.

•    Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time and culturally aware and comfortable with international travel within EMEA region.
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of other European languages is a plus. Dutch, French and/or German language skills are preferred.
•    Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
•    Excellent presentation/public speaking skills.
•    Computer literacy (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SFDC)
•    The candidate could be based preferably out of Eastman’s Ghent, BE office or home office in a regional European city with a major airport.
•    Willing to keep on learning and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
