Lab Technician Plasticizers

Responsibilities

This is a full-time position based in the European Technology Center in Ghent - Zwijnaarde.
 
The position will support Eastman Chemical Company's Plasticizers business with responsibility for providing laboratory technical support for the high-quality raw materials that Eastman supplies into a wide variety of markets including adhesives, flooring, wire and cable, flexible PVC, and for sensitive grade areas like toys, child care, food contact supplies and medical applications.  
Ideally the applicant will have some laboratory technical expertise in polymer related industries or technologies.
 
Responsibilities:
•    Preparing PVC & other polymer applications formulations for testing. 
•    Carrying out chemical and physical testing of raw materials and end products.
•    Organizing and prioritizing experimental work based on timelines and objectives outlined by supervision.
•    Documenting and reporting laboratory work.
•    Attending safety meeting/activities, carrying out safety inspections, complying and promoting the Eastman Safety Culture.
•    Handling of chemicals (receiving & shipping).
•    Preparing and submitting samples for physical and analytical testing.
•    Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
•    Assisting Application Development and Technical Service personnel in providing training and demonstrations.
•    Working with vendors to ensure that chemicals, equipment and consumables are available for smooth laboratory operations.
•    Maintaining a clean work area in line with Eastman’s housekeeping standards.
•    Addressing customer complaints/inquiries. 
•    Participating on multi-disciplinary teams  
 

Qualifications

•    Education - A bachelor degree in chemistry, material science or a related scientific subject.
•    Experience/Job Knowledge/Expertise - Ideally the applicant will have some expertise in the polymer industry.  Relevant techniques are: rheology, mechanical testing, viscosity testing and thermal analysis.
•     Judgment –Ability to plan laboratory work in accordance with the requirements of the supervisor. Make some conclusions on the laboratory results obtained. Ensure that materials & equipment are available when laboratory testing is required. Notify peers and supervision when issues related to laboratory safety are being observed. 
•    Initiative – Must be self-motivated and able to work independently, looking for ways to improve laboratory work processes, testing accuracy and safety. 
•    Computer Skills – Microsoft Office. 
•    Language Skills – Fluent in Dutch and English both written and spoken. Additional language is an asset.
•    Communication Skills – Must be able to communicate experimental results clearly to peers & supervision both in writing and through verbal communication. Be able develop and understanding and to talk to customers about EMNs plasticizer product portfolio and various applications. 
•    Teamwork – Must be able to work with people having different personalities and different job functions. Have a flexible and adaptable attitude. Work with a multi national team.
