Analytical Scientist
This is the role
The Analytical Scientist will provide hands-on scientific and technical contributions within the chromatography laboratory, supporting multiple Eastman businesses across R&D, application development, production support and customer-facing projects. The successful candidate will combine strong theoretical knowledge of analytical sciences, with extensive practical experience and will be a natural coach and mentor, working closely with laboratory technicians.
Typical duties and responsibilities are
• Champion safety first: rigorously follow all safety guidelines and serve as a visible role model in the lab
• Bring hands-on chromatography expertise across GC and LC, from routine analysis through advanced techniques such as multidimensional chromatography, LC-MS/MS, and high-resolution MS
• Apply complementary analytical techniques, with experience in NMR, ICP, FTIR, titration, or ion chromatography considered a strong plus.
• Serve as a hands-on technical consultant by setting up analytical work, proposing methods, troubleshooting bottlenecks, and writing and reviewing reports.
• Lead method development, validation, and troubleshooting across a range of instrumentation and complex data.
• Provide project and technical leadership while coaching and mentoring technicians through hands-on guidance, knowledge transfer, and training.
• Support the adoption of automation and data science by using these tools personally and upskilling the broader team.
• Apply strong business acumen to prioritize work and exercise sound judgement across competing demands.
• Support multiple Eastman businesses across R&D, application development, production support and customer-facing projects, managing shifting priorities with ease.
• Ensure accuracy, reliability, reproducibility, and clear documentation of analytical results.
• Support the maintenance, qualification, and calibration of chromatographic instruments and associated software.
• Builds and maintains an external analytical network
• Communicate findings clearly through technical reports, presentations, and effective cross-functional collaborations..
This is what you bring
• A master’s degree or PhD in analytical chemistry, chromatography, or a related field, with several years of relevant industrial experience.
• Strong analytical expertise with advanced laboratory techniques, complemented by experience in method development, validation, troubleshooting, and complex data interpretation.
• A natural leadership and coaching style, with the ability to work closely with technicians and provide effective project and technical leadership.
• A practical, proactive, and collaborative approach to problem-solving, with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a non-routine application development and R&D environment.
• Fluency in written and spoken English, with strong documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills.
