This position reports to the Maintenance Manager at the Jefferson Site, located just south of Pittsburgh, PA.  The Maintenance Supervisor will perform job functions site-wide, to carry out assigned duties in an effective manner.  Activities of the Maintenance Supervisor must be coordinated to assure efficient performance of the various job functions.  The employee is required to conduct the job in a safe, secure, and environmentally responsible manner, performing to the principles of our Responsible Care Pledge. 


The Maintenance Supervisor must: 


  • Be able to perform all the essential elements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Possess a working knowledge of pipe fitting, both welded and screw pipe in all sizes and materials.
  • Be able to troubleshoot and supervise the repair of columns, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
  • Possess a working knowledge of industrial insulation systems.
  • Be able to apply proper lifting, rigging, and hoisting techniques.
  • Be able to work in temperature extremes and noisy areas; climb as necessary to reach the job; ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, crane baskets
  • Be able to tolerate pulmonary irritants such as fumes, vapors and dusts; work in confined spaces.
  • Be able to utilize Eastman desktop applications and various other computer systems such as Outlook, SAP, and Eastman Web which are integral to performing maintenance work.
  • Demonstrates a willingness and desire to function in a team setting and exhibit behaviors that would support overall company goals and objectives.
  • Actively participate in improvement teams, projects, and safety programs as well as follow and uphold the Eastman Team principles.
  • Understand Maintenance Processes and scheduling systems.
  • Possess an aptitude for estimating materials and labor of maintenance tasks.
  • Exhibit a knowledge of industrial and commercial piping systems.
  • Understand proper assembly of plastic, fiberglass, steel screwed, bonded, and welded pipe assemblies.
  • Recognize sound welding ability such as ensuring a quality slag-free (homogeneous) pipe assembly that will pass a prescribed pressure and leak test, suitably perform solder and brazing operations to fabricate copper and steel tube piping systems.
  • Understand the disassemble, repair, or rebuild and reassemble valve assemblies and steam traps.
  • Exhibit knowledge to read and interpret piping schematics of boiler systems, construction drawings and specifications, and have skill at using necessary and proper manual and power tools and measuring apparatus to efficiently fit and fabricate piping sub-assemblies.
  • Possess strong initiative (able to direct one’s work efforts with little supervision)
  • Possess strong problem solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Possess strong communication skills – verbal and listening.
  • Actively engage in open communications with his/her peers and crew members to drive continuous improvement culture.
  • Use their skills to ‘problem solve’ issues encountered through self-knowledge and collaboration of others to develop a good solution and drive to conclusion.



  • Must be high school graduate or equivalent
  • Must have high craft skills level, and experience in maintenance
  • Must be able to read with comprehension and interpret job/division policies and procedures
  • Must be able to write legibly
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with others orally, in writing, and electronically
  • Must be proficient in use of ‘computer tools’ (document searches, excel databases, etc.)
  • Must be organized to accomplish daily task requirements consistently each day
  • Must drive workforce to accomplish daily tasks safely and successfully 


Safe Operations 


  • Must understand and follow all applicable, safety requirements and expectations.
  • Must have clear understanding and working knowledge of Electrical Safety.
  • Must have clear understanding of PPE requirements for working on or near energized equipment.
  • Must have clear understanding of area electrical classifications and the necessary use of Hot Work Permits.
  • Understanding of a wide variety of safety requirements, rules, and guidelines (such as Safe Practices Manual and Lockout/Tagout procedures) and the ability to apply this understanding in many different settings as necessary to ensure personal safety and safety of others.
  • Ability and willingness to utilize all safety-related information to work safely and to continuously improve safety results.
  • Ability to use required safety equipment including safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, safety harnesses, respiratory protective equipment, hard hats, and protective clothing such as gloves, coveralls, and specialized protective suits.
  • Sensory functions and response necessary to recognize and respond to safety warning devices/systems and potential safety hazards, such as moving equipment.
