This position is for an experienced Chemical Engineer to support manufacturing, lead large capital projects and process improvement within Technology at the Columbia, SC site. 
The job responsibilities are as follows:

  • Develop technical expertise on Polymers manufacturing processes to identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, cost, quality, and/or capacity
  • Develop a deep understanding of polymer process chemistry
  • Troubleshoot daily operational issues - interface with operations and maintenance personnel as problems are addressed
  • Serve as Division Rep on large capital projects to support growth initiatives for the Plastics Business
  • Partner with colleagues as part of cross-functional teams including technology, manufacturing, businesses, HSES, and other functions to drive process improvement projects, growth programs, and business initiatives
  • Provide project leadership and develop lab, pilot plant, and manufacturing trials and experiments. Utilize design of experiment methodology where applicable
  • Provide timely communications to management and project stakeholders by communicating project needs, value, priorities, and decisions to ensure project success
  • Provide technical support during on-going plant operations and shutdowns
  • Participate in root cause analyses of process upsets and equipment failures to identify corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Implement projects and process changes following Management of Change procedures
  • Provide training on processes, process controls and changes to all levels within the department



Required Degree: BS in Chemical Engineering


Required Experience:  3+ years of experience related to manufacturing process development or process improvement

  • Proven ability to engage well with operators, peers, and management

  • Exhibit good leadership attitudes and behaviors
  • Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills
  • Large capital project experience is a plus
