Role Description

 

Eastman is working to catalyze the transformation from a linear to a circular economy.  With the launch of two commercial molecular recycling technologies, Eastman sees the opportunity to show what is possible and create real solutions to the world’s plastic waste problem.  In order to do this, we must shape market expectations, break through old paradigms, and drive change in the market. 

 

The Representative works closely across the enterprise to set the direction for desired policy mechanisms, community investments, civic partnerships and builds and maintains strategic relationships with organizations that align to Eastman’s corporate growth strategy to drive community development, employee engagement and retention, and business growth. The role serves as an ambassador to federal, state and municipal agencies and their staff. The Representative grows and protects the Company’s reputation and fosters important relationships through community engagement and strategic investments.

 

The Representative is responsible for developing and executing strategic advocacy efforts at the state level to advance Eastman’s priority objectives.  He/she will be responsible for complex project management, monitoring and adjusting as necessary.  Both direct and indirect lobbying are required, as well as management of agencies and individual contract consultants. Strong communication and collaboration skills are critical. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Conducts/participates in strategic planning with internal stakeholders to set direction of advocacy efforts and evaluate goals, objectives and priorities. Measure and report on initiatives and actions.
  • Manages complex advocacy initiatives in multiple states/geographies to progress corporate goals and enable business growth.
  • Builds and sustains local market relationships and partnerships with community, civic and nonprofit organizations to support company objectives and help meet community needs.
  • Influence key stakeholders to drive community initiatives and obtain state and local support – including economic/community development incentives to support corporate strategic objectives and improve the quality of life in site communities.
  • Actively represents Eastman in community and economic development initiatives by developing and maintaining strategic alliances with local advocacy organizations.
  • Operates across organizational boundaries to build consensus across the company to advance guiding policies, strategy and goal implementation.
  • Collaborates across the Public Affairs organization to facilitate local disaster community relief/recovery response efforts.
  • Collaborates across the Public Affairs organization to ensure alignment with key local, state and federal government officials and other key stakeholders
  • Builds trusting internal relationships as a central point of contract and expert in external stakeholder/community decision-making regarding issues affecting company stakeholders and reputation.

 

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements

 

  • Master’s Degree preferred in public or business administration, BS degree is required
  • 7-10 years’ experience in government affairs or public service management with demonstrated success in:
    • Progression and influence of policy mechanisms
    • Economic and infrastructure development
    • Wide variety of experiences leading strategic partnerships – creation, execution and demonstrating collective impact
  • Significant experience in multi-state initiatives, complex project or platform management
  • Team leadership and budget management experience required 
  • Understanding of circular economy and experience in environmental, climate or recycling related issues is a plus
