Responsibilities
The position’s responsibilities include every aspect of chemical plant instrument and electrical design for new facilities and improving the safety, reliability, and operability of existing facilities. This position will require a self-starter that can independently provide technical leadership and assist with developing specifications for distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation, motors, and low-voltage power distribution systems. Candidate will guide studies and evaluations, aid in developing I&E drawings, approve I&E drawings, and aid in developing project scopes. This role works with manufacturing personnel, project teams, maintenance personnel, mechanical contractors, and others to provide optimal I&E engineering designs and solutions. The Electrical Project Engineer works on multiple projects while balancing efforts to effectively provide project deliverables to meet fast passed deadlines while adhering to budgetary constraints.
• Guides and counsels, the work of a small in-house I&E design team.
• Executes all aspects of electrical/instrument engineering based on a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and advanced concepts
• Responsible for drawing setup and design documentation
• Responsible for overseeing construction document development from initial design to issue-for-construction
• Performs and reviews project cost estimating
• Assists with maintaining and developing I&E engineering standards
• Oversees Engineering Process Safety Information update associated with Management of Change
• Evaluates Value Engineering
• Provides construction support including bid evaluations, submittal reviews, responding to RFI’s, providing filed support, conducting final walkthroughs, and developing punch lists and “As-Built” record drawings
• Leads projects and multi-disciplinary tasks. Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of the project team comprised of engineers, designers, technicians, and subconsultants.
• Provides leadership and facilitates technical and management collaboration amongst project team members, stakeholders, and the client. Communicates and works with the client on a variety of issues including progress and status reports, scope, schedule, and budget.
• Tracks the progress of deliverables, client reviews, technical input, and comment resolution.
• Participates in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
• Monitors project schedules regularly to determine any delays or deviations.
• Monitors fees and budgets; proactively reports problems to the appropriate Department Managers.
• Manages workload and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours
Required Qualifications
• BS in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of chemical manufacturing experience in an Engineering / Project Management function
• Must possess or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card prior to first day of employment
• Strong leadership skills
• Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaboration skills: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, production staff, and senior management.
• Time management and organizational skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Effective computer skills including Microsoft Office
• Self-starter, able to work with little supervision
Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• 5 or more years of progressive experience in the execution of Electrical Engineering for capital projects in an industrial environment.
• Experience in the design and execution of Electrical systems as part of capital projects including the development of Electrical Scope of Work packages for engineering contractors. This includes identifying applicable project deliverables (Electrical drawings etc.), P&ID front end development, equipment locations, area layouts, and the selection of equipment specialty components.
• Project management skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
• Experience with new equipment installation / commissioning
• Thorough understanding of engineering principles, relevant codes, and construction practices to effectively manage projects and to apply efficient and innovative solutions to technical and organizational challenge
• Familiar with SAP functionality
• Proficient writing and evaluating equipment specification sheets
• Understanding of financial analysis and relevant business drivers
• Understanding of CAPEX budgeting and preparation processes

• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and be able to work in awkward or confining spaces.

• Must be physically capable of spending long hours standing and occasionally work in chemical-protected clothing and equipment.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders (including vertical) and work at elevated heights.
• Must be able to work in chemical protective clothing and equipment in an outdoor environment.
• Must be able to work in a potentially hazardous chemical environment.
• Must be “fit for duty”
