Maintenance and Construction Technologist

The Maintenance and Construction Technologist’s primary job responsibility is to maintain and improve infrastructure systems supporting the Maintenance Department, as well as coordinate construction efforts at the site. This position will report to the Area Manager of the Maintenance Department and routinely interface with Maintenance, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Logistics, as well as the Safety and Environmental Department.
 

Responsibilities

Maintenance Support responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
•    Maintain and improve infrastructure systems supporting the Maintenance Department
•    Monitor and audit the health of the maintenance work processes and routinely report to the Area Manager
•    Support Maintenance Team Managers in maintaining thorough on-boarding and refresher training processes for their teams
•    Assist in reviewing and updating training documentation
•    Support development of procedures, job plans and checklists
•    Ensure that up-to-date procedures are maintained on all aspects of the department
•    Assist in developing spare parts strategy
•    Identify innovative tools to improve safety, quality and efficiency of work
•    Identify tools and methodologies for preventative and predictive maintenance
•    Develop systems and strategies to optimize maintenance execution
•    Provide tools and training, as necessary, to support Maintenance Team Managers ensuring that their teams are familiar with all safety and environmental rules/regulations that affect the work area
 
Capital Projects Construction Coordinator responsibilities also include, but are not limited to, the following:

•    Coordinate capital project field construction as needed
•    Supervise job activity related to assigned projects to ensure that they are executed according to the plan and schedule
•    Work with Maintenance Team Managers to manage resources to support project load
 
Routine Reporting responsibilities also include, but are not limited to, the following:
•    Monthly analysis of performance metrics for deviations with recommendations for resolution
•    Monthly status reports on improvement efforts being led or coordinated by this position
 

Required Qualifications

•    18 Years of Age with a High School diploma or GED 
•    10+ years of related experience in Maintenance or Construction; preferably in a chemical plant or refinery setting
•    Must possess or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card prior to first day of employment
•    Possess a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
•    Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident)
•    Possess skills, knowledge, and training related to implementation of life critical processes: LOTO, system and process openings, working at heights, hot work, confined space entry, energized electrical work.
•    Basic understanding of window-based programs: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills 
•    Well-developed teamwork and leadership skills
•    Self-initiated learning 
•    Time management processes and skills
•    Self-initiated corrective actions/follow-through

 

Preferred Qualifications


•    5+ years creating new procedures and updating existing procedures for the department and or area of expertise. Proven contribution to standardization of procedures, recommendations and best practices.
•    5+ years creating and maintaining training material including qualification standards, manuals, checklists, and training documents.

 


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


•    Must be willing and able to work outside, year-round under various weather conditions. Eastman is a 24-hour, 365 days per year operations.
•    The candidate must be capable of climbing (scaffolds, towers, vessels, etc.) and working at heights.
•    Able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds
•    Able to wear appropriate protective equipment
•    Basic computer skills are a requirement for this position
•    The critical competencies for this position are communication, teamwork, problem solving and decision-making, results orientation, initiative, relationship building, and technological orientation.
