Solutia, Inc., a leading manufacturer of film interlayer products, has immediate opening for a Coating Technician at its Springfield, MA location. Coating operations consist of mechanical setup in a pilot scale environment for parts coating operations. Certificate of analysis inspection and acceptance, process monitoring, data acquisition and process adjustments are needed for successful operations. Quality control testing is completed for parts acceptance testing prior to release. Candidates will be cross-trained in pilot plant operations including computer-controlled extrusion, laminating machines, partially automated extrusion and embossing machines, data acquisition systems, raw materials and finished goods handling equipment. 

Responsibilities include:

⦁    Mechanical installation and breakdown of various coating setups for routine coating processes.
⦁    A wide variety of parts coating operations and polymer processing operations.
⦁    Coordinating and preparing parts for shipping Domestically and Internationally. 
⦁    Working closely with the team for successful coatings and piloting operations. 
⦁    Quality Control testing of Coating parts; Saflex/SV sheet; data collection; entry and operation of SDC and SAP for raw materials and finished goods; equipment file organization; SAP data collection for the maintenance module.
⦁    Proper recognition, record keeping and disposal techniques in lab quantity amounts for chemical hazardous waste. 
⦁    Other offline responsibilities will be assigned on an as needed basis


Responsibilities include mechanical setup and installation, parts measurement, quality testing, parts assessment, process monitoring and documentation, process adjusting, preparing for shipment, communication with internal resources on parts status, raw materials transfer, extrusion line setup, startup and control, sheeting line adjustment, sheet handling, instrumentation setup and calibration, sampling and sample analysis, data collection, other extrusion related duties and run/test report writing. Will work safely with others in a team and promote a safe work environment.


⦁    Associates Degree in a Technical Field or Technical Diploma required.
⦁    College level course work in math/engineering or mechanical/electrical trade school, a plus.
⦁    Candidates must be familiar with basic mechanical and electrical principles and safety.
⦁    Candidates must have familiarity with basic hand tools and their use. 
⦁    Required to be able to read, understand and follow E&I flow diagrams, operating procedures and run plan instructions.
⦁    Familiarity with coating equipment and operation.
⦁    Familiarity with thermocouples, pressure transducers, setup and monitoring heaters and thermocouples for melt pipe.
⦁    Must be able to review blue prints, conduct equipment and safety reviews and support quality improvement projects.
⦁    Ability to work with machinery in a pilot type atmosphere. 
⦁    Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
⦁    Good communication and technical skills.
⦁    The ability to work overtime is necessary; and willingness to work second shift is desirable.  
⦁    Must be able to lift materials up to 40 lbs and be on one’s feet for eight-hour periods.
⦁    Will be trained to operate lifting equipment to move parts, raw materials and finished goods.
⦁    Strong commitment to task and ability to organize, prioritize, and execute assignments in a high activity environment.
⦁    Initiative, drive, and attention to detail.
⦁    Clear and effective written and oral communication.
⦁    Demonstrated computer experience with standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
