Responsibilities

Analytical Chemist – Springfield, MA
Job Responsibilities:  

  • Actively participate in full compliance with the site’s Zero Incident Mindset Safety programs and identify safety concerns and implement countermeasures to correct potential safety issues
  • Utilize and develop analytical measurement techniques to support manufacturing, quality, technical service and product and process development functions across the Advanced Materials - Interlayers business.
  • Participate on technical teams focused on business objectives of corporate growth and site quality improvement programs.
  • Employ the latest analytical technologies and sound analytical principles to solve major technical problems. Evaluate/develop new means for solving analytical and measurement needs of the Advanced Materials - Interlayers business and participate in efforts to implement them.
  • Develop strong working relationship with colleagues globally across sites and functions and analytical personnel at our corporate headquarters in Kingsport, TN.
  • Supervise skilled technicians and/or operators in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.
  • Ensure timely completion of analyses and projects.
  • Review and write test methods and technical reports.
  • Carry out all work in accordance with health, safety, and technical procedures
     

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills: 
Required Degree:
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Materials Science and Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university, or M.S. degree with 5+ years of relevant industrial analytical experience.

  • Broad-based analytical chemistry background with an emphasis on data-based problem solving.  Experience with FTIR, GC/MS, ion chromatography and GPEC is preferred.
  • A strong team player with a winning attitude willing to work across organizational lines to achieve goals.
  • Motivated to develop into a company expert in solving analytical problems. Should be able to lead and engage other scientists and technicians to provide key analytical data.
  • Innovative and creative problem solver with strong data interpretation skills and ability to identify options from incomplete data.
  • Capable of managing short-term and long-term measurement needs while meeting timelines.
  • Clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of statistics and computer use for instrument control and information presentation is required.
