Job Description: 

Our ideal candidate should have a background in chemistry, polymer science, materials science, or other closely related field. This role requires a sound knowledge of utilizing additives in polymeric materials and films for light control, solar management, color properties, and durability. The candidate will also develop and implement test methods to measure and evaluate critical performance requirements in laminated glazing applications. This role requires a fast-fail mindset enabled through prototype demonstration via lab and pilot plant processes. We also expect extensive hands-on laboratory experience, a willingness to learn new disciplines, and an ability to contribute to business-critical innovations.

Direct Responsibilities:

•    Application development of polymer materials, films, and interlayers for new functionalities, such as color properties, light control, and solar management.
•    Develop formulations and additives to enhance performance durability, including mechanistic understanding of UV, thermal, and chemical stability. 
•    Formulation of polymeric materials, films, and interlayers through laboratory mixing, compounding, and extrusion operations.
•    Development of test methods and equipment to assess critical performance properties.
•    Effective application of interlayer additives to guide and drive product design.
•    Engage across the organizations and collaborate with other research and application functions and business units to identify key unmet needs of targeted customers.
•    Communication of results through effective written documentation and oral presentations.


•    PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science/Engineering, or other relevant field of study. All career levels will be considered for this role. 
•    Broad background in structure/property relationships.
•    Experience with formulation of polymeric materials, films, and interlayers through laboratory mixing, compounding, and extrusion operations.
•    Working knowledge of analytical characterization of polymers and functional additives.
•    Knowledge of solar control and light management in laminated glass applications is preferred. 
•    Knowledge of and application experience with color matching including formulation utilizing dyes and pigments is desired.
•    Experience in market discovery and customer engagements is a plus.
•    Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
•    High level of initiative, with ability to work individually and in teams.
•    Experience with experimental design, data analysis and statistical tools.
