Position Purpose

This position works within the Global Trade Compliance team to develop and execute trade-related processes and takes all appropriate measures to establish and maintain an effective, risk-based trade compliance program within the region. This position relies on experience and judgment to ensure achievement of corporate business objectives and operational goals while ensuring compliance with all legal and risk-mitigation requirements. This position will advocate Eastman’s interests to government agencies to ensure fair and ethical trade, aligned interpretations of the regulations. This role must be independent and objective, with an ability to stay organized under demanding circumstances. This position requires excellent communication and research skills.

Job Responsibilities

•    Oversee the Global Trade Compliance function within the Asia region (outside China) and coordinate activities with the China Trade Lead and the broader corporate team.
•    Provide insight to the Director, Global Trade Strategy & Compliance on activities within region.

•    Negotiate with and advocate Eastman positions to government agencies to ensure fair and advantage interpretations of regulations regarding our products
•    Monitor regional legislation, regulations and rulemaking impacting Eastman's trade interests and the chemical industry; provide policy recommendations to best achieve outcomes favorable to Eastman
•    Oversee and execute day-to-day operations of the Global Trade Compliance program within Asia (outside China) region, including overseeing order-level screen evaluations and releases and documentation of compliance controls.
•    Assist in the coordination of the compliance activities of other departments and conduct audits to assess performance and gather/record data in order to identify trends.
•    Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk.
•    Respond to inquiries from customers and government agencies.
•    Oversee preparation submission, and administration of import and export licenses, agreements, and miscellaneous correspondence to cognizant government agencies.
•    Maintain expertise in trade-related regulations and trends through on-going education and participation in relevant governmental and trade association meetings.
•    Collaborate with other company functions for all related import/export matters to ensure compliance.
•    Identifies regional trade trends and communicates it to the global trade team and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required, i.e.  Business, Supply Chain, Corporate Compliance
EXPERIENCE: At least 6 years relevant experience in the Trade Compliance and strategy; Supervisory experience
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES, KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    High ethical standards
•    Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
•    A proven track record of excellence in Import/Export processes and compliance management
•    Strategic approach to international trade
•    Proven ability to negotiate fair and advantages interpretations of regulations with respective government agencies
•    Solution oriented
•    Excellent social skills and flexibility
•    Good command in both reading and written English. Fluent in Mandarin will be a plus
•    Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent attention to detail
•    Strong leadership and employee management skills
•    Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
•    Proficient in MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word and Outlook
•    Knowledge of SAP
