Responsibilities

Responsibilities
Assist the Research Team Leader, Strategy Director, Marketing Director and/or BLT member to scope, design and launch research projects, including:
•Identify potential sources of data, including pre-existing studies (in the relevant Fact Base) and potential vendors, either of secondary data or for doing primary research
•Suggest and help evaluate potential research methodologies for gathering types of data
•Help establish the right technical parameters for each research project (i.e., sample size, composition, timing, etc.)
•Drafting project charters and work plans for simple research projects
•Managing the process of identifying and qualifying potential external research vendors, including drafting RFPs, contacting potential vendors and conducting comparative analyses of vendor proposals

Ensure that each research project is properly focused and structured, i.e., that the right questions are asked in the right way, by
•Working with the Strategy and Business teams to translate business issues into researchable business questions
•Writing non ambiguous interview questions that, collectively, provide definitive answers to/insight upon business questions, and testing for intelligibility, etc.
•Structure interview questions into interview guides with appropriate flow and length

Lead the effort to gather the data, including
•When appropriate, conducting interviews with customers, SMEs, etc., and supervising/ensuring the quality of interviews conducted by other EMN employees
•When appropriate, managing research vendors on a day to day basis, ensuring that they adhere to the sample plan, conduct quality interviews, meet deadlines, etc.
•Assembling the research data (both primary and secondary) – or ensuring that vendor assembles it – into well documented, easily searchable, accurate databases (e.g. ensures data is scrubbed, database has logical and user-friendly structure etc)

Lead the effort to create clear, complete, and insightful reports
•Suggests and conducts the initial analyses of the data (e.g. cross tabs, testing for statistically significant differences, trends, etc.)
•Creates clear, comprehensive interim or ‘data read-out’ reports, including identifying key learnings
•Creates compelling, insightful final reports that, along with summarizing the key learnings, provide results of the initial analyses, and extracts and communicates insights

Lead/support the effort to integrate the research into the Business’ decision-making process
•Ensure that all key members of the Business and Strategy teams understand the data, learnings, and insights
•Work with the Business and Strategy teams to apply the collected data within and through the methods and tools used by those teams to make tactical and strategic decisions, e.g. in setting price bands based on industry cost curves, etc.

Qualifications

Required Education and/or Experience
Education:
•Master’s degree in Market Research, Business Administration, or related field of study plus 3 years of experience
Alternatively, will accept a bachelor’s degree plus 6 years of experience in lieu of a Master's degree

Experience:
•Experience in market research within a business-to-business or business-to-consumer environment is required.
•Experience in developing business and/or product strategies within a business-to-business or business-to-consumer environment is a plus.
•Demonstrated experience with project management skills leading multi-functional teams is required.
•Must demonstrate strong strategic thinking and analytical capability and the ability to work in a complex and diversified environment.
•Position requires strong computer skills particularly in effectively presenting concepts and “key takeaway” analysis through use of PowerPoint, other graphic packages, Excel, etc.
•Undergraduate degree in technical discipline (Chemical Engineering or Chemistry) or direct industry research experience is a plus
