Group Leader, Technical Service & Design, SP Asia Technology

Position Purpose


This position is for a Group Leader for the Asia Technical Service and Design Team in Specialty Plastics Technology of Eastman Chemical Company in Asia region. The selected individual will provide leadership to the Technical Service efforts of the Asia Pacific of polymer technology department in Specialty Plastics organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure World-Class Technical service resource to drive growth
    • Make sure sufficient resource alignment to support SP business growth in the region
    • Lead the team to provide technical support to business by joint customer call with sales and marketing to discover customer unmet needs, understand customer requirements and define products value propositions. Provide technical recommendations to support sales close new business.
    • Provide technical service to customers. This will include on-site trial service, hands-on molding/processing support, technical consultation, troubleshooting, complaints handling and conducting technical seminars for customers.
  • Coaching for Performance & Talent Development
    • Coaching for performance and talent development. Responsible for the performance of team member and provide development opportunities for individual contributors.
    • Constantly improve the technical and functional competencies of the group to allow them to stay relevant to industry/market trends and company growth plan
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Create and maintain a safe working environment for the group.
    • Ensure group compliance with the Eastman Team culture
  • Partnership
    • Act as liaison with other technology and functional groups which include marketing, commercial and technology teams. Act globally while functioning locally.
    • Identify and establish appropriate external partnerships (industry experts, customers, co-suppliers, channel partners)

Knowledge and Skill Requirements (To include education and experience)


  • Advanced degree in scientific discipline in a field related to plastics (Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical engineering, or equivalent).

A candidate with a master degree with minimum of 10 years of plastic experience or a Ph.D. with minimum of 5 years of plastic experience is required.

  • At least 5 year experience in people leadership is preferred.
  • Strong background in polymer science theory and plastics processing knowledge.
  • Demonstrate strong project and people leadership qualities
  • Strong communication & influencing skills, effective with all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills, strong integrity and ethical behavior
  • Fluent in English

Travel Requirements

The candidate is required to visit key customers to understand the unmet needs of new applications.
