The Position

The position is exciting and provides an opportunity to work in a professional, dynamic and international company. The legal department in Asia Pacific covers all legal aspects of doing business in Asia that has both B2B and B2C elements. There is an unique blend of wholly owned and joint venture manufacturing sites across Asia. The team not only advises and assists the business organizations, but also all staff functions, and provides training on various legal topics. Skill sets in providing strategic guidance on M&A opportunities would be valued.

You will manage a team of highly skilled individuals to cultivate, guide and steward, and be a role model for close collaboration between Asia and the corporate headquarters in the US.

You will participate in and provide counsel and stewardship to the Asia Pacific leadership team and enhance the accessibility and profile of the Legal Department.

You will be based in Eastman’s headquarters in Shanghai and you will report directly to the Director, EMEA Legal Affairs.

 

The Profile

  • A minimum of 15 years’ in-house working experience in Asia/China, in a multinational company, preferably in the chemical industry;
  • Exceptional commercial legal experience in a variety of matters, e.g. corporate, joint ventures, commercial, employment, distribution, anti-trust/competition, transactional and litigation;
  • Highly effective, trusted and respected business counselor;
  • Talent to balance speed and accuracy within a multinational business environment;
  • Strong/innate sense for business ethics, compliance and legitimacy in business dealings;
  • Highly strategic and consequential thinker;
  • Strong leadership with experience in leading and developing a team of legal professionals;
  • Excellent interpersonal, solution-oriented, technical and analytical skills are essential;
  • Poise and ability to be calm ‘under fire’;
  • A humble and honest leader who consistently puts the team/company success at the forefront;
  • Flexible and enthusiastic, ambitious and an inherent intellectual curiosity about business, law, markets, customers, operations, people and processes;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, both in Mandarin and English.
