Application Development Representative, Coatings and Inks
Responsibilities
| • As a senior scientist, lead projects with global teams focused on Can Coating applications • Apply deep understanding of Can Coating formulation and application process to develop application of prototype polymers and additives for coated articles • Establish internal testing capabilities to validate performance of developmental products and benchmark materials • Work with internal capabilities and can coating formulators to develop technical solutions • Determine fitness-for-use criteria for specific customer applications and reduce these to research programs to develop new polymers and additives • Identify knowledge gaps and lead research efforts to develop new products/formulations • Network with a cross functional team across R&D, marketing, sales and manufacturing to develop products which can transition quickly to commercialization • Provide technical support to formulators and coaters during product scale up and commercialization trials • Develop technical literature to support new products or techniques • Serve as a technical expert on can coating formulations and processes. • Serve as a resource for internal and external customers on market specific product and process technology • Establish peer level connect with the external technical community in order to maintain an up to date understanding of market dynamics, regulatory trends and competitive intellectual property • Support quality, health, and safety initiatives as they relate to formulation, material safety, and technical data sheets. • Attend trade shows and technical conferences to align with market trends and establish/strengthen market connect • Travel to customers to discover needs, match fitness for use characteristics with product offerings, and support new sales opportunities through qualification. • Mentor and support development of technicians and other technical personnel. |
Qualifications
Qualification
• At least MS degree in polymer science, coatings, packaging, materials science, physics, and at least 10 years of experience in Can Coatings is preferred
• A track record of leading technical projects in can coating formulations with a major multinational coatings manufacturer, a major AP regional manufacturer, or a major resin supplier.
• Familiar with value chain of can coating including brand and can makers, etc.
Experience & Skill Requirement
• Engage with customers to understand needs and to establish Eastman’s credibility as a reliable high quality supplier and development partner
• Assess and communicate customer needs and project results to Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Technology, and business partners, tailoring the communication to the audience
• Document results accurately and in a timely manner using e-notebook, technical reports, and invention reports, as required
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product commercialization, as required
• Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work as a part of a cross-functional team
