The Legal, Regulatory and External Affairs Department in EMEA

 

Our department supports all Eastman businesses and corporate functions and deals with a broad variety of items, including legal (corporate law, contract law, distribution and agency,  competition law, litigation and dispute resolution, finance and credit matters, labor law, M&A and corporate secretarial work), global business conduct, global trade compliance and product stewardship and regulatory affairs.  For the EMEA LRE team, we are currently looking for a Trade Compliance Analyst & Paralegal. The position would be based in Eastman’s EMEA headquarters in Rotterdam.

The Role

 

The Trade Compliance Analyst and Paralegal will execute trade-related processes and provide assistance and support our corporate secretarial responsibilities across the EMEA region to maintain the company’s compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The position reports to the Regional Trade Compliance Manager and has a dotted reporting line to EMEA Legal Director. 
 
This role is pivotal in ensuring legal and trade compliance and governance in EMEA and requires a detail-oriented professional with solid knowledge of legal procedures, excellent organizational skills and accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently within a dynamic international environment. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee the European Union Trade Regulations and actively contribute to translate these regulations to facilitate Duty mitigation (FTA’s, Suspensions, etc.) and Trade compliance programs.
  • Support in managing Eastman’s due diligence, regulatory requirements and reporting processes required as part of Eastman’s trade programs.
  • Oversight of Eastman’s EMEA Drug Precursor, Dual-Use and High- Risk products policy/procedures’ execution.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable trade regulations, including export controls, customs laws, sanctions, and embargoes relevant to the EMEA region.
  • Provide internal stakeholders with timely and appropriate information on the requirements and documentation to comply with Eastman’s trade compliance programs and activities.
  • Managing SAP control blocks, proceeding Restricted Party Screening, Drug Precursor and dual-use products.
  • Assist the legal team in preparing, reviewing, and managing and maintaining corporate records for Eastman EMEA entities, including board resolutions, shareholders registers and statutory filings
  • Coordinate with local service providers to ensure timely completion of annual returns, director changes, and corporate filings.
  • Support internal legal reporting and documentation requests, audits, and due diligence processes.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of board and shareholder meetings, including agenda drafting and minutes.
  • Monitor and track corporate compliance obligations to ensure ongoing adherence to local regulations.
  • Maintain digital corporate governance platforms (GEMS) and ensure accurate data management across systems.
  • Liaise with Eastman’s tax, finance, and HR teams for cross-functional matters affecting corporate entities

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Legal Studies, Business Administration or related field.
  • 3 years’ experience or more in a similar role, preferably within a multinational or law firm environment.
  • High level of accuracy, confidentiality and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively across cultures. Additional European languages are a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and a bias for action
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word, Outlook, Microsoft
