Responsibilities

The Safety and Security Specialist plays a key role in maintaining a strong safety culture at the site. The person in this role is a leader in industrial safety for the plant, role-modeling safe behaviors and reinforcing a Zero Incident Mindset. The ability to establish positive relationships is key as this role partners with site leaders and the HSES team to achieve safety and security objectives across all areas of the plant. This person reports to the site HSES Manager.

Job duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Champion site Zero Incident and safety programs to engage team members and promote a committed Zero Incident Mindset and safety culture
  • Champion the Total Safety Process (TSP)
  • Maintain and manage site policies and procedures related to safety/industrial hygiene (lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fall protection, etc.)
  • Serve as the site leader for industrial safety - being visible in field and accessible to site employees for the purpose of auditing programs, resolution of safety issues, and ensuring safe work practices are followed
  • Partner with corporate industrial hygienist to provide oversight of all industrial hygiene programs at the site
  • Responsible for site security and oversight of contracted security staff- Manage MOC (Management of Change) at site by fulfilling roles of MOC Coordinator, Training Coordinator and Safety and HAZCOM subject matter expert in MOC process
  • Management of employee training programs to include delivering new employee safety training, data entry of training records, development of some safety training and program administrator duties
  • HSES contact for contractor management program
  • CFATS administrator/coordinator for Pace
  • Lead and support incident investigations
  • Maintain relationships with community officials and local groups
  • Serve as a resource for Site Emergency Response Team and liaison for medical physicals
     

Qualifications

  • BS degree required. (Preferred discipline Occupational Safety and Health or related 4 year technical degree)
  • CSP Preferred (Certified Safety Professional)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience required in chemical or industrial manufacturing safety/industrial hygiene
  • Experience in a PSM-regulated manufacturing plant is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build solid working relationships within team and site
  • Strong presentation and meeting facilitation skills
  • Ability to develop cohesive working groups with personnel of various backgrounds, work assignments and education
  • Strong computer skills needed (Proficient in Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to perform work indoors and outdoors. Work may involve climbing, working in congested areas, and working around chemical process equipment.
