Responsibilities

The Process Engineer at the Pace site is a hands-on role expected to spend time in the plant as well as the office, providing plant support and implementing projects driven by personal safety, process safety, environmental compliance, quality, reliability, growth & /or cost reduction.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Operations & Maintenance personnel to address and troubleshoot operational issues 
  • Develop and execute $25K to $5MM capital projects (includes developing scope, conducting project safety reviews, generating cost estimates, serving as project manager when funds are approved, etc).  Develop all conceptual design, basic engineering and process-related input for detailed engineering deliverables.  Interface with contract project engineering personnel if needed.  Projects may address process safety improvement or improvements to process, utilities &/or plant infrastructure.
  • Lead and participate in process hazard reviews, LOPA analysis and plant safety assessments
  • Execute and close PHA & LOPA recommendations
  • Identify productivity improvement projects by analyzing production data, performing process heat and material balances, modelling and simulating the process, pinch analyses and other quantification methods
  • Propose production tests to collect data for productivity improvement projects.  Evaluate the results of production tests. Utilize design of experiment methodology where applicable.
  • Monitor and continually optimize process operation; provide guidance to operations personnel to ensure that key energy consumption, yield, selectivity and production targets are met.
  • Generate Management of Change (MOC) documents to address plant issues as required; complete engineering aspects of MOC documentation
  • Follow new technology developments and evaluate opportunities to implement in existing units
  • Cooperate with new business development activities to estimate the capital expenditure needs for implementing business growth plans
  • Participate in plant safety audits and routine safety improvement activities

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience in chemical/petrochemical industry or related industry, in either Engineering or Operations roles
  • Strong process understanding and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of heat exchanger design, simulation and rating a plus
  • Relief device sizing, specification and selection a plus
  • Strong background in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point and ASPEN+ modeling software.  Working knowledge of SAP.  Experience with PI Process Books/PI Vision a plus.
  • Working knowledge of HAZOP and LOPA methodology.  Trained facilitator credentials are a plus.

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including the use of a respirator
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms
