Position Overview

JOB LOCATION - MUMBAI

 

The Process Engineer – Fundamental Data & Process Support will be responsible for generating, analyzing, and applying high-quality fundamental thermodynamic and physical property data to support process development, scale-up, toll manufacturing, and commercialization activities. The role involves hands-on experimental and data-analysis work in areas such as vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE), vapor–liquid–liquid equilibrium (VLLE), extraction, crystallization, solubility studies, and rheology. The incumbent will work closely with R&D, process development, manufacturing, and external tolling partners to ensure robust, scalable, and transferable processes. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Fundamental Data Generation and Analysis 

1.Design, plan, and execute experimental studies to generate high-quality fundamental data including VLE, VLLE, solubility, phase behavior, and liquid–liquid extraction data 

2.Conduct and interpret crystallization studies covering solubility curves, metastable zone width, nucleation, and crystal growth behavior 

3.Perform rheological characterization of liquids, slurries, suspensions, emulsions, and non-Newtonian systems 

4.Ensure experimental data quality, repeatability, and relevance for process modeling and scale-up 

5.Analyze experimental results and develop correlations, trends, and conclusions for process optimization 


Process Development and Scale-Up Support 

1.Provide fundamental data and insights to support process development, optimization, and debottlenecking efforts 

2.Support selection and design of separation processes including distillation, extraction, and crystallization 

3.Collaborate with modeling and simulation teams to validate and refine thermodynamic and process models 

4.Assist in pilot plant trials, plant start-ups, and troubleshooting activities 

5.Apply sound chemical engineering principles to ensure safe, robust, and scalable processes 


Tolling and External Manufacturing Support 

1.Provide technical support for toll manufacturing and external production activities 

2.Evaluate and assess toller capabilities with respect to process requirements, equipment, and safety 

3.Support technology transfer to toll manufacturers including process documentation, data packages, and operating windows 

4.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues during toll production 

5.Ensure protection of intellectual property and adherence to quality and safety standards during external manufacturing 


Documentation, Quality, and Compliance 

1.Maintain thorough and accurate experimental records and technical documentation 

2.Prepare detailed technical reports, data summaries, and presentations for internal and external use 

3.Support preparation of process descriptions, operating manuals, and technology transfer documents 

4.Ensure compliance with EHS, quality, and regulatory requirements at all stages of development and manufacture 


Cross-Functional Collaboration 

1.Work closely with R&D chemists, formulation scientists, analytical teams, and manufacturing engineers 

2.Interface with procurement, supply chain, and external partners as required 

3.Contribute technical expertise during project reviews, hazard analyses, and decision-making forums 

4.Mentor junior engineers or scientists on experimental methods and data interpretation 

Education and Qualifications

1.M.E./M.Tech./PhD in Chemical Engineering  

2.Advanced coursework or specialization in thermodynamics, separations, or crystallization – Preferred 

3.5–10 years of relevant industrial experience  

4.Hands-on experience generating and applying fundamental thermodynamic and physical property data 

5.Practical exposure to VLE, VLLE, extraction, crystallization, solubility, and rheology studies 

6.Experience supporting process scale-up, pilot plant, and manufacturing or tolling operations 

Technical and Professional Competencies

1.Strong command of chemical engineering fundamentals and thermodynamics 

2.Ability to translate experimental data into practical process insights 

3.Structured problem-solving and data analysis skills 

4.High attention to detail, data integrity, and safety 

5.Effective written and verbal communication skills 

6.Industrial experience in chemicals, specialty chemicals, pharma, or related sectors preferred
