The Middelburg Site

 

The Middelburg site was established in 1968 and Eastman acquired it in 2001. The key products produced are rosin and hydrocarbon resins, including Regalite™ hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin. The product end uses are adhesives, printing inks, coatings, paper production, paint, food industry, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, textiles and building products.
 

Role Profile

 

The Production Support Manager reports to the Manufacturing Manager and has primary responsibility for the site’s Process Improvement portfolio, operational work preparation and ensuring timely inbound and outbound of Raw Materials and Finished Goods.

To understand Product Line Strategy and direct Process Improvement initiatives, you will be a key member in the Product Line Teams, liaising with functions such as Supply Chain, Sourcing and Product Management, as well as the Adhesives Technology group.

To allow for the Production team to concentrate on the core manufacturing activities, you and your team will be heavily involved in safe, timely and efficient conduct of all maintenance and construction/projects, both during and outside of Turnarounds. This involves Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) preparation, authorization and execution, as well as permitting and recommissioning. 

This is a position in where the short term and mid- to long term responsibilities merge. You lead a team of 5 highly independently operating direct reports. The span of controle includes up to 16 indirect reports. 
 

Responsibilities

 

  • Relying upon your commitment to safety, employee health, the environment, and your knowledge of EHS rules and regulations, you will ensure all aspects of production are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner with a Zero-Incident-Mindset. 
  • Ensure timely inbound and outbound of raw materials and molten finished goods, by leveraging established SOP’s, whilst maintaining the quality, safety and environmental standards and managing the conversion cost
  • As site Turnaround core-team member you will be responsible for a safe and timely execution of Turnaround activities and start-up
  • Ensure technical scope is timely identified/clarified and plans and resources are being coordinated towards efficient execution, allowing for proper asset maintenance and project implementation
  • Ensure that the production units are prepared safely and on time for daily maintenance and project jobs and that they are safely and timely recommissioned when the jobs are complete
  • Actively contribute to the Product Line Teams, helping to identify the right process improvement strategy to win with customers and generate product line value
  • Drive improvement roadmaps and intensively liaise with Adhesives Technology, Engineering & Maintenance, Production and the Site Leadership Team
  • Engage, motivate and continuously develop your team 

Qualifications

 

  • A Master or bachelor’s degree, with a strong preference in Science or Engineering
  • 2+ Years of prior leadership experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and manage change
  • Six Sigma certification and experience in structured Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Methodology is a plus
