Eastman Chemical Company operates intrastate pipelines under the Mustang and Eastman Company names.  Eastman is looking for an experienced Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineer to be the Pipeline Engineer for a long-term position at our Longview, TX location.

 

Position Description:

The Pipeline Engineer is responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operations of 550 miles of Eastman  and Mustang Pipelines. The main focus would be leading the Integrity Program for these pipelines.  Following the Integrity Management Plan, they would coordinate the testing and evaluation of In-Line Inspections, Hydrotesting, and other assessments of the Pipelines. After reviewing the results of these tests,  they would coordinate the excavation of the anomalies and any repairs if needed. The Pipeline Engineer would work closely with the Pipeline Inspectors, Compliance Technician, Pipeline Assistant, and the Area Manager to insure a safe and reliable operation of the Pipelines.

 

This position requires a self-motivated Engineer that can work without direct supervision and has the ability to multi-task scheduled tasks and reactionary requests.  This is an exempt position that requires 80+ % in the Longview office with some WFH allowed. Some travel will be needed to become familiar with the pipelines that are between Longview and Tyler and Conroe and Mont Belvieu.  Travel to evaluate special projects or assist with tie-ins / cutouts would be expected.

 

Qualifications

 

Requires knowledge and experience in own Engineering discipline; performing all duties of assigned role, but still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills. Builds knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Solves a range of straightforward problems. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Works with a minimal level of guidance and direction.  Impact of work is at the corporate level. Strong oral and written communication and technical skills are necessary. Ability to contribute individually and as a leader in a team environment.

 

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Experience in Integrity Management Plan development or implementation would be preferred.
  • Experience desirable in pipeline operations, pipeline repair and pipeline integrity issues such as corrosion control, pipeline assessment and fitness for service evaluation, risk management, DOT Code requirements and compliance.
  • Must have an understanding of or quickly learn all applicable codes and regulations such as 49 CFR Part 195, ASME B31.4, ASME B31G.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs project management duties for inline inspection projects and other projects as assigned.
  • Works with ILI service providers including coordinating ILI bid packages, selection, evaluation, and award.
  • Develops and maintains inline inspection and integrity testing schedules.
  • Submits proposed projects to support execution of IMP ensuring compliance with all federal and state pipeline safety regulations.
  • Analyzes ILI data, then communicates and coordinates the pipeline repair activities in response to ILI anomalies.
  • Management of Integrity Management Plan requirements for HCA areas. Understands threat and risk analysis.
  • Advises engineering group to facilitate long term operation, maintenance, and assessment of our existing Pipelines.
  • Documents IMP related decisions, philosophies, and results.
  • Provide Engineering support for Pipeline Integrity Projects including material selection, determination of required hydrostatic test pressures, MOP/MAOP calculation, burst calculations, evaluation of defects and recommended appropriate repairs.
  • Interacts with other integrity engineers, the corrosion group, Tyler Terminal and Cracking Plants on a regular basis for efficient implementation of the pipeline integrity plan.
  • Identify additional preventive and mitigative measures, determining the re-assessment interval and re-assessment methods.
  • Stay current with the pipeline regulations, industry standards, integrity assessment methods, repair methods, compliance documents ,etc.
  • Annually review the Operations & Maintenance manual and keep up-to-date.
  • Provide input to annual budget and 5-year Capital Plan.
  • Must be able to operate Microsoft Office applications (including experience with excel formulas tracking and mathematical formulas) and other personal computer-based applications for gathering, integrating, analyzing and reporting pipeline integrity related data.
  • Integrity assessment/assurance activities like Fitness For Service, Corrosion Evaluations, Remaining Life Studies. 
  • Perform pipeline defect assessments like dents, ovalities, wrinkles, laminations, Lack of Fusion, cracks, Selective Seam Weld Corrosion, AC-Induced Corrosion, Gouges & Arc Burns, and MIC.
  • Review overall integrity effectiveness and management which includes, criticality assessments, pipeline threat assessments, consequence assessments.
  • Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, or drawings
  • Read, develop, and prepare Process Flow Diagrams and Piping and Instrument Drawings.
