Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Integrity Engineer in Eastman's Asset Integrity, Reliability and Plant Protection Department, Asset Integrity Group, you will provide engineering technical support and stewardship of the Mechanical Integrity portion of the Texas Operations (TXO) Asset Integrity Programs. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Code and Corrosion Inspection group to ensure mechanical assets are inspected, monitored and repaired as deemed necessary by the appropriate codes, standards and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and drive the Mechanical Integrity Assessments for the site
- Drive and support implementation of Risk Based Inspection Program; then maintain/sustain RBI once implemented at the site
- Provide turnaround planning support for required mechanical integrity inspections
- Review, update and create mechanical integrity procedures
- Interpret, review and apply engineering standards, codes, specifications and drawings
- Use and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and vessel/piping drawings
- Identify and implement improvement opportunities though new inspection technologies or improved work processes
- Complete Engineering study jobs as requested
- Mentor interns and new hires
- Learn and apply various API codes, the Approved Pressure Vessels Practice (APVP) manual, the Approved Safety Practices Manual (ASPM),and embody the expected safety commitment
- Miscellaneous C&CI Support:
- Spend a minimum amount of time in the field working and supporting C&CI’s inspections
- Review inspection plan revision requests
- Review extension interval requests
- Review inspection results and provide technical guidance on asset repair and inspection strategy.
- Troubleshoot inspection findings on assets identified during inspections
- Help with C&CI, PV Engineers and Operations to help develop repair and inspection plans
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology required
- 3+ years of chemical/petrochemical, refinery or similar industry experience required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to climb ladders and stairs to access platforms or scaffolding
- Able make field visits, enter confined spaces, and wear fall protection when required
- Able to work outside of normal work schedules to accomplish a task as needed
- Willing to travel to other sites or cities for company business (vendor sites, training classes, etc.) as needed
- Willing to be on-call periodically on weekends per department policy and procedures
- Must possess a mindset that injuries and safety events are avoidable
- Strong commitment to personnel and process safety
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with mechanical integrity, maintenance and inspection of fixed equipment (pressure vessels, storage tanks, and piping)
- Experience with fabrication and/or repair of piping, vessels, tanks or other welded fabrications
- Familiar with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes and API Standards
- Familiar with NBIC and Texas Boiler Law
- Experience with welding and weld procedures
- Familiar with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technology
- General understanding of the function and operation on various types of plant equipment (process tanks, columns, exchangers, etc.)
- Experience with materials and identification of common damage mechanisms
- Ability to effectively handle a large volume of important or urgent issues in a timely manner
- Ability to effectively self-manage a very demanding workload
- Service-oriented and customer-focused
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good team leadership and collaboration skills
- Strong judgement, planning/organizing, problem-solving and decision-making skills
