Measure & Draw Pipefitter Field Maintenance Mechanic
Responsibilities
The primary functions of the Measure & Draw (M&D) / Pipefitter Field Maintenance Mechanic (FMM) involve providing precise measurements and drawings for repairing and replacing piping systems while ensuring compliance with safety standards and industry codes. This role requires interpreting technical drawings, conducting inspections, utilizing measurement tools, and collaborating effectively with engineers and other tradespeople to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Assist in designing and developing new piping systems, as well as modifying and repairing existing systems to ensure accurate measurements and dimensions.
- Prepare drawings and perform calculations related to measurement and dimensioning activities.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine layout and installation procedures.
- Work from blueprints, written specifications, sketches, job plans, and oral instructions.
- Lay out dimensions, cut, clean, bevel, and prepare piping and materials for repair or fabrication of piping, vessels, and structures.
- Dismantle, erect, install, and assemble process piping and equipment throughout the plant as needed.
- Conduct inspections of piping systems to identify leaks, blockages, and other issues.
- Diagnose problems and perform necessary repairs or replacements on various types of piping systems.
- Work closely with engineers, contractors, and other tradespeople to ensure project success.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress and any issues that arise.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and company rules and policies.
- Use all designated personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, face shields, fire retardant coveralls, safety boots, and respirators.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols and practices.
- Utilize testing and measurement equipment.
- Observe maintenance procedures and keep all tools and shop equipment in good working condition.
- Use computers to access procedures, complete required training, input/retrieve data, and review BOMs (Bill of Materials) in SAP.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and prepare documentation related to measurement and dimensioning activities.
- Be available for overtime, alternate schedules, on-call duties, and rotating shifts as required.
- Perform other related duties as designated by supervision.
- Perform work in both shop/indoor and field/outdoor environments (in all weather conditions).
- Capable of standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, working in cramped or confined spaces, and lifting and moving loads of various weights using available tools and equipment.

- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- At least 18 years of age
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Valid motor vehicle Driver’s License
Maintenance Experience:
- Completion of the TXO Maintenance Support Mechanic Apprenticeship Program, OR
- Minimum five (5) years of industrial experience and knowledge in maintenance related work execution in the refinery or petrochemical industry.
- Basic math skills including working with fractions, decimals, and currency and basic understanding of trigonometry.
- Work in a self-directed work environment
- Ability to understand/ follow written and verbal instructions/ procedures.
- Ability to complete a variety of seemingly unrelated tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate clearly and tactfully with a broad range of people.
- Ability to plan-ahead and handle many details.
Post-requisites for this position are:
- Completion of the TXO Field Maintenance Mechanic Apprenticeship Program modified for the M&D/ Pipefitter position within the specified time.
- Desirable / Preferred Skills/Qualities:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in an associated field.
- Technical certification or apprenticeship in pipefitting.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in pipefitting, with a focus on measurement and dimensioning.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of various piping materials and systems.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).
- Computer skills/ proficiency with multiple software packages, including corporate systems (currently: SAP Plant Maint. module, Microsoft Office products, PowerBi, Intranet, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
- Knowledge of process industry related safety and environmental policies and programs.
