Job Description
Electrical Engineers in Engineering & Services Department, Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Group, provide electrical engineering technical support for plant operating and maintenance departments. The engineers also provide electrical engineering support for capital projects including (1) definition of the electrical/instrument scope of project, (2) input to estimates, design and specification of equipment, and (3) other needed capital project services. Individuals in this role maintain expertise in assigned functional areas and areas of subject matter expertise. The engineer also maintains corporate and site standards related to assigned functional areas, aligning these with other industry standards as applicable.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide electrical and instrument (E&I) engineering technical support, primarily for the Longview, Texas site, but for other sites as requested.
- Identify opportunities for improved electrical design (e.g., improved safety, quality, cost, reliability, etc.).
- Maintain technical expertise in assigned functional areas such as power distribution, electric motors, variable frequency drives, etc.
- Provide or coordinate training for operating departments and Control Systems Mechanics related to assigned functional areas.
- Provide forecast cost and schedule estimates for capital and maintenance projects.
- Determine scope of work for electrical portion of projects.
- Provide engineering design and specifications to support procurement and construction activities for projects.
- Lead and/or participate on standards teams to develop standards and practices to be used for Eastman capital and maintenance projects.
- Maintain knowledge of latest innovations and technologies.
- Interpret codes and standards related to functional areas of expertise.
- Participate with E&I team members on improvement projects related to E&I processes.
- Provide on-call E&I support for plant operations.
- Prioritize work assignments based on the safety, environmental, regulatory, and economic value to Eastman.
- Electric Motor Expertise and Functional Ownership:
- Work with Operations staff and Maintenance to resolve electric motor issues on low voltage and medium voltage motor applications.
- Provide engagement and support for capital projects involving motor installations.
- Monitor performance and maintain data on equipment where possible.
- Assist in the troubleshooting of motor or motor related issues.
- Lead effort for the repair of large electrical motors.
- Communicate equipment repair status to stakeholders.
- Ensure that motor repair vendors meet Eastman standards for quality and safety.
- Visit motor repair facilities as needed to ensure quality and reliability of electric motor repairs.
- Engage in Reliability Reviews associated with motors to discern root causes.
- Provide mentorship and sharing of knowledge for other team members.
- Perform above duties with attention to safety in both work practices and design.
- Perform above duties with a focus on teamwork and customer satisfaction.

Bachelor (BS) or Master's (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university is required.
A minimum of five years of experience in electrical power or motor specification, design, and troubleshooting in the petrochemical industry or petroleum refinery industry is required.
