The individual selected for this position will provide direct customer technical service for Eastman's coatings products, in support of the Additives and Functional Products Coatings & Inks business. A minimum of quarterly travel to Central and Latin American countries is required, ~20-30%. The individual may also provide very limited support for NAR (as needed). 

Job Responsibilities:
• Comply with all corporate, division, and group safety requirements.
• Demonstrate commitment to continual safety improvement, model good safety behaviors.
• Knowledge expert in coatings raw materials, formulations, and markets to support sales and sales development, distribution, customer service, product commercialization and identification of new opportunities.
• Provide technical support to sales partners, with emphasis on Central and Latin America region, to win new opportunities for Eastman products at existing and prospective customer accounts.
• Participate in customer and distributor visits and teleconferences for discovery and technical support.
• Assist QA in resolving product quality issues and process improvements with fitness for use evaluations.
• Use good judgment as to when technical support is needed at a customer based on the value of the current business or opportunity.
• Generate physical property and performance data to support technical service and market needs.
• Develop an understanding of customer requirements and testing procedures to enable troubleshooting of customer formulation problems.
• Maintain awareness of competitive materials to Eastman products and provide competitive assessments as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of new coatings technologies relevant to Eastman via scientific literature, relevant patents, and industry publications.
• Conduct and/or coordinate lab experiments using Eastman commercial and growth products and other materials used in the market.
• Develop expertise on regulatory issues impacting coatings in the CAR & LAR regions, assist with issues as needed.
• Develop and deliver training on Eastman’s coatings products both internally and externally.
• Communicate technical and product promotional data at customer sites, and industry trade shows (both on site and virtual).
• Answer technical inquiries concerning Eastman’s coatings products in an accurate, timely fashion.
• Assess and communicate customer needs and project results to marketing, manufacturing, technology, and business partners, tailoring the communication to the audience.
• Document results accurately and in a timely manner using e-notebook, technical reports, and invention reports, as required.
• Serve on cross-functional teams to support new product commercialization and launches, as required.
• Develop effective working relationships with Eastman sales, business, marketing, product stewardship and technical personnel.


• Bachelors of Science degree or higher in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is preferred, while a degree in a related science field would be considered for someone with extensive coatings and inks experience.
• Technical experience in formulation, application, and fitness for use testing of architectural, transportation, packaging and/or industrial/protective coatings, or internal knowledge of Eastman coatings products is desirable.
• Prior experience in a customer-facing role is desirable.
Required Skills
• Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is required.
• Ability to plan and execute projects in a technically competent manner based on the scientific method, using good statistical practices.
• Knowledge of laboratory techniques.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with external customers/distributors and internal partners.
• Good organization skills, ability to manage several projects during the same time period.
• Strong computer software skills; particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
• Self-starter with ability to work autonomously, highly motivated and results oriented.
• Excellent written communication and customer presentation skills.
• Commercial aptitude.
