Sustainability has increased dramatically in importance along with a corresponding need for accuracy and credibility in reported data.  This position will be responsible for a subset of sustainability data related to manufacturing, i.e., greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water, safety.  Some of these areas such as GHGs are reported for compliance to regulatory agencies.  However, the governing guidance and the reports are not necessarily the same.  For example, GHGs reported for sustainability are governed by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol which differs from regulatory reporting.  For the first time this year, Eastman is seeking third party verification for GHG reporting indicating the increased importance on thorough and accurate reporting.  
This position will be responsible for managing data collection and reporting for American Chemistry Council (ACC), sustainability and environmental, society, and governance (ESG) metrics and responding to customer questions.  There will also be internal interfaces such as supplying data for life cycle assessments.  
Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collect data related to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water, safety metrics, and other measures reported externally.  These are reported to organizations such as CDP, ACC and collected for publication on
  • Create and manage schedules for collection of data to coincide with reporting. 
  • Ensure accuracy of the data by monitoring trends over time, cross-checking with other available information, and ensuring procedures are kept up to date.  
  • Provide knowledgeable interface with Price, Waterhouse, Cooper for third party validation.
  • Provide verbiage to explain changes in the data from year to year for various reports such as CDP.
  • Respond to customer questions on an as requested basis and coordinate interdisciplinary methods to respond to customer inquiries regarding HSES topics.
  • Improve the data collection process through standardized processes and a longer-term IT solution, taking advantage of data available in existing IT systems and minimizing the opportunity for human errors.  
  • Support other related work as time permits such as energy assessments and Responsible Care audits. 


  • Bachelor's degree (B.S) in Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.  Chemical engineering degree is preferred.  
  • Work Experience and Requirements:
  • Five plus years Eastman experience with manufacturing and/or environmental experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge necessary to perform the position:

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interface with individuals providing data from multiple sites across the company.
  • Process orientation that can be applied to standardizing and developing efficiency and accuracy improvements.
  • Ability to create timelines and meet schedules.
  • Willingness to learn about broader sustainability issues to enhance contributions, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
  • Interest in sustainability issues and interest in moving into more advanced sustainability related positions.
