Responsibilities

 

This Mechanical Engineer will be a member of the Technology Project Engineering team in Worldwide Engineering and Construction (WWE&C) Division.  The engineer will be responsible for a variety of projects supporting the top corporate growth initiatives and Technology facility infrastructure primarily at the Kingsport, TN site.  Projects will vary in scope from troubleshooting, upgrades, identification of process improvements, and small capital projects.  This individual will be expected to build a strong cross-functional network, collaborating with other Technology, Eastman support organizations, and Contractor employees.  This individual will interface with a variety of Eastman businesses, and should be comfortable communicating with operations, technicians, group leaders, and directors.

 

Mechanical Design:

  • Utilize in-depth knowledge and experience on Technology projects that span from small, fast-paced technical support needs to larger, long-range study jobs, development projects, and capital projects.
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgement based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Applies knowledge of best practices derived from experience and nationally recognized engineering standards.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction, capacity and process improvement projects such as process optimization and mechanical reliability.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all stakeholders.
  • Responsible for liaison between project and Pilot Plant teams.
  • Provide oversight for small construction project engineering.
  • Serves as a resource for teammates with less experience.


Project Management:

  • Manage multiple Technology projects simultaneously, supporting each business segment within Eastman.
  • Projects are primarily directly supporting growth initiatives and infrastructure projects required for Top Growth platforms.  
  • For each project, the engineer will:
    • Work with in-plant customers to assist in defining project needs and scope
    • Use scope to prepare estimate of project costs
    • Develop and initiate work packages using appropriate funding mechanism
    • Procure necessary mechanical equipment
    • Work with a team of technologists, technicians, and skilled craft labor to execute the project
    • Communicate and coordinate closely with customers, fellow project participants, and field execution forces to insure project execution runs smoothly
    • Monitor schedule and costs regularly to insure project remains within control boundaries
    • Ensure proper documentation of all aspects of the project: scope, deliverables, estimate, material and labor costs, drawings, schedule, etc. 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 10 years of industrial experience required.
  • HVAC experience a plus
  • Candidate must be a self-starter, with demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Must follow corporate and site standards in the design and execution of all project work.
  • Ability to interact positively with group members, project teams, technicians, technologist, and other organizations.
  • Attention to detail and good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and ability to organize/prioritize and execute assignments in a high activity environment.
  • Comfortable working in both an office and field environment.
