 The Segment Market Manager (SMM) is responsible for developing and executing market segment plans that drive profitable growth for Eastman’s Aventa Compostable materials platform.
Working with the appropriate cross functional team, the SMM is
responsible for developing a compelling value proposition and offer for each market segment, as well as designing a marketing and sales effort to maximize the market segment’s volume, revenue and variable margin contribution.  Market segment level offers will specify products to be offered, service level bands for service offer elements, and price bands.  The SMM will lead a team that includes Market Development Managers, Sustainability and Marketing Communications.  



  • Leverages market, segment and customer insights to identify market segments with the highest margin growth potential and builds addressable market maps
  • Develop market segment plans including establishing targets and projects that maximize volume and margin growth
  • Lead the cross functional segment teams that are accountable for executing all activities within the market segment plans including customer engagement plans
  • Develop compelling offers (including pricing strategy) and value propositions for market segments
  • Develop a fact base for each segment and keep continuously refreshed and deepened
  • Capture and analyze information from a variety of sources to identify market/customer feedback and offer insights and measure market segment performance results
  • Based upon market/segment trends, growth drivers and customer insights identify innovation and growth opportunities to bring new, differentiated products to the targeted market segments in the form of Stage Gate projects
  • Apply good marketing discipline and practices on the job to grow the business across diverse markets and through a variety of channels (e.g., digital, social medial, content marketing, sales support, print, etc.)
  • Lead and coach a team of five direct reports 



  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing discipline required
  • MBA degree with an emphasis in marketing is preferred
  • Prior experience in sustainable materials used in the food packaging and/or food service market preferred
  • 6-10 years prior experience in sales, marketing, commercial or product management
  • Able to coach and develop marketing skills in others
  • Continuously builds Industry/ Market understanding and insights
  • Has identified and delivered on opportunities through segmentation and targeting
  • Utilized Stage-Gate process to develop new, differentiated products
  • Developed financial value case for segment plans and tactics
  • Has successfully activated new products in a market
