Role Description


The  primary role of the Research Manager is to lead market research projects, commissioned by  Marketing Directors, Product Directors, or other BLT members, and Strategy Teams, that provide the data and insight needed for both tactical/short-term and strategic decision making.  The Research Manager has two secondary roles.  One is to mentor and develop Research Analysts in terms of research methods and skills, as well as project planning and execution.  The other is to create and maintain a comprehensive, accessible, and up to date Fact Bases as possible.  This includes but is not limited to building and maintaining market intelligence dashboards and designs/executes research projects.  This ensures that our business and functional teams have the data/insights about markets, customers, and competitors that they need to make both tactical and strategic decisions.


The Research Manager is expected to be experienced with all relevant methods of research (primary, both quantitative and qualitative, and secondary), as well as the selection and management of research vendors. The research manager will collaborate with cross functional partners to execute complex projects with little to no direct guidance from the Research Team Leader or from the Global Market Research Director




• Assist the Research Team Leader or Strategy Director, to design and launch research projects ensuringappropriate knowledge gaps are filled to support tactical and strategic decisions
• Identify potential sources of data, including pre-existing studies
• Evaluate potential research methodologies for gathering particular types of data
• Establish technical parameters for each research project
• Scope projects, draft project charters and work plans for research projects
• Identify and qualify external research vendors, including drafting RFPs, conducting initial negotiations withpotential vendors and conducting comparative analyses of vendor proposals
• Translate business issues into researchable business questions
• Structure interviews that can provide definitive answers to business questions
• Lead the effort to gather the data, including: conduct interviews with customers, subject matter experts, andprovide interview guides for other Eastman employees
• Manage research vendors on a day to day basis
• Assemble research data into well documented, easily searchable, accurate databases
• Create clear, complete, and insightful reports and presentations
• Ensure that all stakeholders understand the data, learnings, and insights

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is required
• 3+ years of primary/secondary research
• Experience developing research strategies which provide useful insights to primary clients
• EBIT and Cash Flow: Provide insights and market intelligence through reports/dashboards & research projectsthat lead to formed market and business choices
• Growth: Support market and business strategies through market research
• Capabilities: Provides research subject matter expertise and coaching to research analysts; navigates andowns personal career development
• Productivity: Plans projects and allocates time effectively to meet deadlines; quickly adapts to shifts andresources and priorities
