This is an Automation Engineering position within Eastman’s Worldwide Engineering and Construction organization.   The individual selected for this opportunity will provide project engineering leadership for electro-mechanical automation projects.  Many project scopes will involve robotics, packaging equipment and material handling equipment.   This position will also provide an opportunity to gain experience in:  

Construction Management 

  • Planning for construction
  • Selection of strategies 
  • Bid package preparation

  • Eastman Capital Processes
  • Presentation and effective communication with business
  • Project Scheduling
  • RFQ preparation
  • Project Execution Strategies
  • Forecasting, negotiating
  • Managing project team performance

Location:  This position will be hosted at the Eastman facility in Kingsport, Tennessee.   Other Eastman manufacturing locations will be considered.


  • Provide Engineering technical leadership during the design, construction and documentation phases of capital project.
  • Provide Project Management Leadership for assigned automation capital projects.
  • Define scope and alternatives for capital projects and provide engineering support from feasibility, front end engineering, construction, and project start up
  • Design, specify, install and troubleshoot process modifications and equipment for assigned projects.
  • Lead cross functional teams comprised of Eastman and outside technical resources, while being able to work individually.
  • Provide CMR (contractor management representative) support to assure oversight of job execution
  • Identify, Investigate, recommend and implement new automation solutions.  



  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Systems or Packaging Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years related Project Engineering, Plant Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience with electro-mechanical process automation.
    • Robotics, Packaging Equipment, Material Handling Equipment
  • Vendor management experience on projects that require integration between multiple vendors.
  • Knowledge of Project Management processes
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and SPC tools
  • Familiarity with PLC based control systems
  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills in managing cross functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Good communication, technical, and organizational skills 
  • High degree of initiative to drive projects through from feasibility to startup
  • Ability to contribute individually and in a team environment
  • Management of Change experience 

This project will require international and domestic travel, 25-50%, depending on project requirements.
