Responsibilities

 

A process chemist in the Cellulose Esters Process Chemistry Group will contribute to projects designed to grow existing business and develop new business for Cellulose Esters.  Candidate will provide technical assistance and project work related to process development, improvement efforts, and assist in the discovery and development of new process concepts for the production of cellulose esters.  Project work will be conducted in the laboratory, pilot plant, and in the large-scale manufacturing facilities. Responsibilities may include the following: 


• Design and conduct laboratory experiments at the bench 
• Analyze results, solve complex problems, and document conclusions 
• Invent, improve, trouble-shoot and debottleneck processes 
• Participate in development team efforts from inception to commercialization 
• Work effectively with other chemists and chemical engineers 
• Exhibit a high level of initiative 
•Apply statistical tools effectively (six sigma, design of experiments) 
• Direct work of technicians 
• Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams and projects 
• Develop hands-on and in-depth technical expertise of cellulosics 
• Conduct literature searches and monitor patent activity 
• Work in a fast paced, results-oriented team environment to assist in developing new technologies to provide solutions to customers' needs 

Qualifications

 

Required Degree: PhD in Chemistry from an accredited college or university with 0-15 years of experience in chemical industry 
• Experience in preparation of organic compounds and knowledge of reaction pathways is required 
• Experience in designing, evaluating, and interpreting complex reaction systems as well as associated experimental setups is required
• Some experience in separations and distillation preferred
• Some fundamental knowledge about cellulose and related biopolymers is preferred 
• Demonstrated creativity and a desire to solve challenging and complex problems 
• Strong project management and team leadership skills 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to work in a team environment
