Lab Analyst Trainee
We have an opening for a Laboratory Analyst Trainee who will:
- Perform a variety of analytical testing of raw materials, in-process and final product samples.
- Simultaneously operate a variety of analytical instruments to perform sample tests.
- Use volumetric glassware, balances and dispensing devices to prepare samples for analysis.
Lab Analyst Trainees are expected to enter the Laboratory Apprentice Program. The purpose of the Lab Analyst Apprenticeship Program at Tennessee Operations (TNO) is to:
Provide the Company with well-educated and trained operators and lab analysts who possess the required knowledge and skills to effectively and safely operate the manufacturing and analytical processes.
To achieve this purpose, the apprenticeship program includes:
- Self-study course work which is the responsibility of Northeast State Technical Community College (NSTCC) to manage and deliver. Passing course grades are required for the self-study courses.
- Job Specific Training (JST) is delivered in the apprentice's home work area. Apprentices are also required to achieve satisfactory levels on the performance assessments associated with the on-the-job training aspects of the program.
- An apprentice is normally expected to complete the program in a minimum of three years and a maximum of four years.
- Pay increases are provided every 26 weeks during the program if the apprentice's performance meets the established guidelines.
- The Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, administers registration and compliance for apprenticeship programs.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry is preferred
- Prior experience in a laboratory environment or advanced (post-high school) study in Chemistry or science is preferred
- Applicants with post-high school study in Chemistry or science (for example, completion of qualifying 2 or 4 year degree programs) may be eligible for "credit" towards the LAAP requirements, including potentially waiving of some requirements and advanced placement within the program, and are preferred for these positions because of the background these programs provide
- Lab Analyst LSE experience preferred
Lab Analyst Trainees must:
- Have satisfactorily completed required WorkKeys assessments prior to submitting application (see scores listed below)
- Be able to perform all of the essential elements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Possess clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Possess and practice good organizational skills
- Be a team player
- Possess basic computer skills, and become knowledgeable of a variety of software packages including corporate systems, i.e., Microsoft Office products, Intranet, SAP, computer dispatch system, etc. - Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety
- Be able to accept and provide constructive feedback
- Be able to work independently (depending on lab and shift assignments)
- Be willing to work 12-hour rotating shifts
