The Indirect Tax Analyst’s primary responsibility is performing state and local compliance processes and monitoring and ensuring the Company complies with sales, use, excise, property and other transactional tax laws.  Additionally, the Indirect Tax Analyst assists with the company’s tax planning and tax audit activities, accounting for tax payments and adjustments, preparation of the tax payment requests, and Sarbanes Oxley control requirements related to tax documentation.  The development of effective working relationships with management, as well as finance and other operating personnel, is required.


Job Responsibilities


  • Perform tax compliance processes related to state and local tax returns.
  • Proactively identify potential tax savings opportunities.
  • Research state and local tax laws, and track, analyze and communicate impacts of proposed tax law changes.
  • Assist with tax due diligence on potential acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Prepare state tax workpapers including purchase and sales detail, tax calculation spreadsheets, and other reports.
  • Prepare and support responses to state audit inquiries and meet with state auditors as necessary.
  • Special projects, as needed.
  • Support tax accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including the reporting of indirect tax accrual-to-actual true-up reviews, and supporting the company’s indirect tax positions under periodic audit by various jurisdictions.
  • Provide tax analysis for the indirect tax forecasting.

Reporting Relationships


  • Reports to the Tax Manager



Education:  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or relevant business area is required. Preference given to candidates with an advanced degree, JD, CPA, CMI, or other applicable professional designation.

Experience:  1-3 years in a large corporate tax environment, which may be in industry, large public accounting firm, or similar, and handling indirect tax matters. Preference given to candidates with prior experience in chemical manufacturing. 


Desired Skills/Attributes:


  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, familiarity with indirect tax laws and concepts, and computer skills in SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of indirect tax compliance processes from company books to filed returns for US and Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Experience utilizing tax and research tools and software to maximize efficiency of tax compliance process (e.g., CCH, RIA, BNA).
  • Experience with tax compliance preparation software (e.g., OneSource, Vertex).
  • Experience with tax calendar tracking software
  • Technical skill and compliance knowledge in indirect taxes across a 50-state footprint
  • Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
  • Detail oriented; strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral/written) and interpersonal skills; solid team player.
