Eastman Chemical Company is currently recruiting for a Group Leader based in Kingsport, Tennessee for the Scale Up and Process Innovation division. The Group Leader will lead the Strategic Evaluation and Execution group to support Eastman’s growth strategy through scale up project leadership, technoeconomic analysis, and process modeling.  This is a critical role that engages broadly across the multiple businesses within Eastman and provides the selected leader with an opportunity to make a major impact on Eastman’s growth strategy.  Excellent people management skills, a strong penchant for cross functional collaboration, and the technical acumen to understand and influence projects that incorporate many different types of processes and chemical transformations are required.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Be a visible safety leader, ensure and follow safety guidance personally and for the group
  • Attract, engage, develop, and retain the talent needed to provide people capable of evaluating and leading major scale up programs for Eastman
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring
  • Ensure appropriate training and competence development in key technologies, intellectual property processes, interpersonal interaction skills, leadership skills, and business/corporate strategies. 
  • Identify and develop key contributors and future leaders by planning growth assignments, team participation, and by execution of effective succession planning.  Prepare and enable personnel to move to new assignments. 
  • Enable individual contributors to lead and develop group members to achieve a higher level of performance. 
  • Manage costs within S&PI budget. Manage capital asset list within group. 
  • Develop and maintain clear understanding of projects and resource allocations 
  • Champion scale up capability development and facilities investments that will maintain and grow a competitive advantage for Eastman 
  • Lead projects and programs as required
     

Qualifications

 

Required Education:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science with or related field with 5 years of experience or a B.S degree with 10 years of experience is required.  

 

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Five years minimum experience in engineering, scale up, process development, applications development, or innovation-related technical roles
  • Prior experience with managing personnel or complex projects/programs is preferred
  • Knowledge of process modeling, project leadership and experience translating lab and pilot scale experiments to larger scale 
  • Ability to work with ambiguity in a fast-paced action-oriented team
  • Working knowledge of intellectual property and trade secret best practices
  • Ability to think intuitively
  • Courage to drive results and speak up when necessary to correct the course of a project 

 

Required Travel: 

  • ~10% travel may be required for this position
