Job Summary


This posting is for a Group Leader in AFP Coatings & Ink Technology Division located in Kingsport, TN. The Group Leader will lead the Coatings Technical Service Americas Group within the division.  The Coatings Technical Service Americas Group provides customer support for a variety of product lines and market segments for the Coatings & Inks Business Unit. The Group Leader is responsible for coaching and retaining qualified staff that contributes to the division and company goals. He or She ensures the highest quality performance through feedback, training, and development of their team.  The Group Leader is also responsible for the alignment and execution of the Technical Service team with the territory management plans and account plans supporting the commercial and market segment teams within the Coatings and Inks Business Unit.  They work to communicate and execute the strategy for the division and set expectations for group members. The Group Leader shall champion and drive key initiatives, critical thinking, quality, and productivity  within the group, division and market segments. 

The key responsibilities for this position includes: 
•    Maintain an effective safety and wellness culture including driving auditing, training and general awareness.  Lead by example through active participation in department Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) programs.
•    Coach and develop direct reports by (a) ensuring each direct report understands their alignment with the business and their impact on short and long term financial success; (b) utilize the Coaching for Outcomes process; (c) expect and reward exceptional performance; and (d) utilizing the disciplinary process when appropriate.
•    Understand their direct reports’ strengths, development needs and career interests.
•    Develop team to promote growth opportunities and ensure technical competencies and lab infrastructural capabilities are aligned with business needs
•    Lead the establishment of effective cross-functional, inter-group, and inter-divisional relationships
•    Collaborate with functional partners (business, sales, marketing, product management, etc.) to ensure effective execution of territory management plans and customer account plans via assignment of resources, and through the development of market collateral to faciliate customer engagement, awareness, and product adoption
•    Foster customer relationships at multiple levels within their organizations
•    Monitor and provide interpretation of industry technical needs and competitive intelligence


Required Education: BS or higher degree


Preference for Chemistry, Polymer Science, Coatings Science, Materials, Engineering, Biology or a related science field from an accredited college or university is required.  Minimum 5 years of coatings experience is required with experience in industrial, packaging, transportation, or architecture coatings being preferred.


Additional Requirements:

• Prior commercial experience supporting customers of specialty coating additives for formulated products is preferred. 

• Ability to understand and guide work within a matrix-enabled organization.

• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to communicate the right level of detail to the right audience, at the right time.

• Self-starter, driven by the investigation, discovery, and implementation of new technologies and meeting customer needs.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, make assignments, and ensure execution in a high activity environment.
