Environmental Representative

The primary objective of Global Environmental Affairs is to provide expert consultation in environmental compliance to Eastman's global manufacturing operations by delivering strategic and tactical support that embraces and converts the complexity of global environmental compliance into value for Eastman.  In support of this, the Environmental Representative has depth and breadth of expertise to deliver strategic and tactical environmental expertise to Eastman’s manufacturing sites.  Additionally, the Environmental Representative will periodically provide expert environmental support and leadership to corporate ESG, Sustainability, and circular economy initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary technical expertise focused on solid/hazardous waste compliance, primarily to manufacturing sites in North America with additional support to EMEA, AP, and Latin America regions.
  • Perform cost/benefit analyses and feasibility assessments of different waste reduction strategies for individual sites, with a focus on reduction or elimination of waste and pollutants at the source via pollution prevention and source control activities.
  • Provide waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability technical assistance including written reports describing waste assessment results and recommendations to sites.
  • Conduct research regarding industry, ESG, and material specific waste reduction, reuse and recycling opportunities.
  • Work with external and internal clients to develop cost-effective compliance strategies for new regulations, growth projects, waste/emissions minimization projects, capital projects, improvement projects, and operational changes.
  • Drive functional collaboration between a variety of organizations across the company (operations, government relations, communications, and sustainability).
  • Demonstrate professional mastery in stakeholder engagement, core sustainability concepts, and implementation of sustainable strategies.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of current, proposed and promulgated environmental regulations for North American sites.
  • Develop corporate environmental policies and procedures. Ensure consistent interpretation and implementation of environmental requirements across sites as appropriate.
  • Lead major local and multi-site environmental topic team(s) with complex risk and significant resource requirements.
  • Negotiate and secure required permits with innovative special conditions and negotiate with state and federal agencies on major site and regional issues.
  • Champion and support the initiatives of the GHSES organization.



  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental or a related science/technical field with manufacturing experience preferred. 
  • Exceptional leadership/teamwork skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a matrixed environment 
  • Proven environmental expertise with a minimum of 5 years (10 years preferred) of environmental regulatory compliance experience including addressing regulatory/compliance issues at a manufacturing site(s), either within direct manufacturing line of management or in a related service organization
  • Self-starter, effective communicator (both verbal and written), and networker with the ability to interact effectively with operations will be a key skill set

Certification or Licensing:

  • No licensing required.  However, helpful credentials would include, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Sustainability Professional, and Professional Engineer license.


  • Approximately 10-15% travel is required for this position (primarily domestic with potential international)
