Engineering Technician - Fire Alarm Systems

We’re hiring an Engineering Technician in the Operations Support Services Division, Plant Protection Services group. In this role, you’ll provide technician-level support plant-wide at the Kingsport site and limited support at other Eastman sites for electronic and electrical fire protection systems.  You’ll work with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering and management on a daily basis, managing and providing support for fire protection systems, manufacturing control system interface and other database-related fire protection control systems.  You will install, configure, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and test a wide variety of complex electronic fire protection equipment.  You’ll also work with outside contract vendors, designers and/or company engineers and be responsible for managing system hardware, software and upgrade needs.


Responsibilities

 

  • Perform testing, maintenance, repair, programming and calibration of electronic fire protection systems protecting manufacturing processes and buildings
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and repair electronic and mechanical fire protection systems interfacing with DCS, PLC or other process control systems
  • Perform testing, maintenance and calibration of gaseous fire protection systems protecting critical process control equipment and computer installations
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance, regulatory compliance and manufacturers specification programs for electronic fire protection equipment
  • Provide technical guidance in the design, planning,  construction, installation and check-out of new fire protection systems
  • Correct or redline electrical and engineering plans, schematics and diagrams
  • Develop and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operation, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems
  • Develop and provide training to Fire Equipment Specialists, Fire Patrollers and Operations personnel on fire protection systems 
  • Provide expertise on protocols, code requirements, technologies and other advances that Eastman can use to develop fire protection systems
  • Provide support for other Plant Protection safety or security systems
  • Generate continual improvement projects 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology or a related discipline from an accredited institution highly preferred
  • Passed NICET Level 1 and Level 2 exams or higher in Fire Alarm Systems 
  • 3+ years field experience highly preferred
  • Electrical/electronic problem-solving and troubleshooting skills 
  • Strong mechanical background
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical and mechanical engineering drawings
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite 
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to lead
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Maintain a good working relationship with customers
  • Eastman Technician Qualified a plus 
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of fire alarm system equipment preferred
  • Experience with DCS/PLC systems preferred
  • Experience with one or more of the following preferred:
    • Siemens/Pyrotronics fire alarm systems
    • Simplex fire alarm systems
