Job Summary

Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks in preparing and maintaining detailed design drawings, schematics or specifications typically using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Works closely with engineers to resolve design details or discrepancies or to prepare drawings which require a high degree of precision using CAD or computer aided engineering (CAE) equipment. Creates, modifies and controls detailed two- and three-dimensional parts and assembly drawings from engineers’ and technicians’ sketches, plans and written and verbal instructions. Follows established principles and may assist in development and maintenance of drafting standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains basic architectural, civil, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical data from documents, occupant interviews, and field measurements.
  • Performs inspections of existing facilities to determine and verify structural detail, mechanical services, and site layout, and to coordinate construction with plans and specifications.

  • Prepare multiple versions of designs for review by engineer
  • Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures for new products
  • Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
  • Explain concepts to manufacturers.
  • Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
  • Work from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers.
  • Operate computer-aided drafting (CAD) equipment or conventional

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • 2-year associate degree from an accredited technical institute or community college in Drafting and Design or equivalent is preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:   Certification(s) from the American Design Drafting Association preferred
