Eastman is seeking a Statistician to join the Applied Statistics Group in our centralized Data Science department.  This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of Eastman's digital transformation by leveraging data and technology to provide critical insights needed to compete in our complex markets. The mission of the Applied Statistics Group is to create value for Eastman through the promotion and use of statistical methods to enhance data-based decision making. Statisticians primarily support the technology (R&D) and manufacturing areas. They work closely with key leaders in these organizations to align to top projects requiring statistical support.


Training and coaching in statistical techniques and related software are also used to increase project involvement and build the capability of the company. This job provides the opportunity to work on a diverse set of projects and apply a wide set of statistical tools. Techniques such as designed experiments, multivariate analysis, statistical process control, regression analysis, and data modeling are regularly needed.


Job Description:


  • Provide essential statistical support to cross-functional teams of scientists and engineers in R&D and manufacturing to develop new products in Eastman’s innovation pipeline
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to tackle complex problems and identify opportunities for statistical solutions
  • Design experiments; analyze results; model data
  • Evaluate measurement systems to improve quality
  • Adaptively align with top projects in your area of responsibility to ensure these efforts receive appropriate statistical support
  • Advocate for data-based decision making and help develop appropriate data analysis skills within the organizations you support
  • Build the capabilities of the organization by teaching courses in statistical process control, applied statistical methods, and design of experiments




  • MS in Statistics or Data Science, or equivalent
  • Experience working in a statistical consulting environment
  • Familiarity with a variety of statistical techniques including regression modeling, design of experiments, statistical process control, sample size determination, nonparametric methods, and multivariate analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn new techniques and tackle challenging problems quickly
  • Flexibility to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Preferred – Coursework or experience in chemistry, engineering, or other scientific disciplines
  • Preferred – PhD in Statistics or a related discipline
  • Preferred – Familiarity with statistical software including JMP, Minitab, Design-Expert


 Required Education


An M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Mathematics, or Business Analytics is required



This position is based out of Kingsport, TN but remote candidates will be considered
