The Centralized Maintenance & Services (CM&S) Division is actively seeking to fill the position of Area Maintenance Manager.  The Area Maintenance Manager (AMM) is a second-level managerial position that functions as the single point of contact for all maintenance and reliability needs within an operating division’s asset base.  An effective AMM has two primary responsibilities:  (1) Allocating resources to support the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of the asset base for a designated manufacturing division; and, (2) Developing the skills and capabilities of the personnel assigned to support that designated manufacturing division.  To accomplish these dual objectives, the AMM must be skilled at developing, prioritizing, and executing tactical plans to support the needs of both the maintenance team and the manufacturing division.  The AMM must also be skilled at making choices and implementing plans that support the strategic needs of the workforce and which drive long-term productivity improvements without compromising safe and reliable operations. 

 

The AMM must develop effective networks with partners across both the aligned operating division and CM&S Division to understand and prioritize tactical and strategic needs. These key partners include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Operations Maintenance Managers
  • Crew, Department and Division Safety Coordinators
  • Planning and Scheduling Team Managers
  • Reliability and Maintenance Engineers
  • Turnaround Coordinators
  • Centralized Eastman Maintenance crews
  • Contract Maintenance & Construction crews

 

While the position of Area Manager in Maintenance is not new, CM&S is purposefully shifting the focus of this role to focus more on talent management and personnel coaching and development, and less on technical problem solving.  The AMM will not be effective at the dual objectives of the role if s/he spends a significant amount of time doing technical problem solving; therefore, the AMM must be able to assess, develop, and trust the area maintenance team’s technical problem solving capabilities.  Personnel reporting to the AMM directly and indirectly typically include a team of maintenance team managers, engineers, technicians, and other skilled craftworkers and support staff.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associates &/or Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering, or MAP/STP program graduate with significant leadership experience.

 

Considered as a plus:

  • Direct & indirect supervisory experience
  • Situational expertise with administering coaching in all directions
  • Depth of knowledge in maintenance and manufacturing work processes
  • Experience facilitating and resolving complex human resource issues
  • Familiarity with Change Management concepts
  • Ownership and successful completion of complex and/or large-scale projects
