Role Description


Eastman is working to catalyze the transformation from a linear to a circular economy.  With the launch of two commercial molecular recycling technologies, Eastman sees the opportunity to show what is possible and create real solutions to the world’s plastic waste problem.  In order to do this, we must shape market expectations, break through old paradigms, and drive change in the market. 


This is a growth positon for the Applications Development team supporting circular economy initiatives of our Specialty Plastics business. Eastman Advanced Circular Recycling technologies will be able to process waste plastics traditional mechanical recycling methods cannot—including polyesters, polypropylene, polyethylene, and polystyrene—derived from a variety of sources, including single-use plastics, textiles, and carpet. These technologies provide a true circular solution of endless recycling for materials, allowing them to be reused repeatedly. This role will help develop applications for Eastman's extensive portolio of sustainable polymer solutions derived from it's circular recycling technologies.


Specific responsibilies include:

  • Identify & document industry and customer specific unmet needs and product fitness for use criteria
  • Participate in, align with and influence the strategy of an industry segment team
  • Become a core member an industry segment team (Application Development, Marketing, Sales, Product Management)
  • Promote an entire portfolio of solutions to meet market needs
  • Support market facing StageGate Projects and lead technical activities of SSOs and StageGate projects
  • Become a technical expert in a market space and its applications (including understanding competitive products)
  • Design and execute experiments aimed at developing applications for specific industries
  • Provide material recommendations though understanding customer CTQs
  • Promote customer trials and evaluations
  • Help develop technical information for customer engagement
  • Define market specific unmet needs / deficiencies
  • Knowledgeable about industry relevant secondary operations
  • Partner with Product Development team to deliver products that a market needs and that will bring value to Eastman
  • Develop IP strategies



  • Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Material Science, or a Physical Science with Applications Development experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field with greater than 4 years industry experience required 
  • Customer facing experience preferred
  • Experience with polymer testing and characterization preferred
  • Experience with polyester and/or cellulosic thermoplastics preferred
  • Experience with applications involving polymer film extrusion or cosmetics packaging preferred
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Project leadership experience preferred
  • Marketing and/or business acumen preferred
  • Demonstrated creativity and a desire to solve problems
