The role of the Statistician is to apply techniques such as design of experiments, statistical process control, hypothesis testing, regression, multivariate statistics, and time series analysis to produce actionable insight for technology and manufacturing projects.  The Statistician will network within the technology and manufacturing areas they support to understand their products, processes, and needs.   The essence of the role is translating technology and manufacturing needs into statistical problems and solutions and then delivering answers that are understandable, insightful, and actionable.  This is a challenging role that requires significant skill in applied statistics, balancing and prioritizing multiple projects, and communicating effectively with a wide variety of counterparts.



Working independently or as part of a team, translate technology and manufacturing needs into statistical questions, then, translate statistical answers into actionable insight by effectively communicating findings to the appropriate individuals
Develop and support statistical solutions to enable decision-makers to address questions of a one-time or repetitive nature
Network with clients to develop a sound understanding of the products, processes and challenges faced by the areas
Actively engage technology and manufacturing partners to identify significant opportunities to apply statistical techniques and pursue the most valuable of those opportunities
Teach Eastman statistics courses
Work collaboratively with other members of the Applied Statistics group to ensure the statistical needs of Eastman are met
Practical application of several industrial statistics techniques such as experiment design and analysis, statistical process control, hypothesis testing and regression, multivariate analysis, and time-series analysis
Experience with some common commercial statistical software such as JMP, Design-Expert, Minitab, SAS, and R
Interpersonal skills needed to interact with clients, teams, and managers
Judgment to manage competing project priorities to deliver timely results
Improvement mindset needed to grow statistical knowledge, consulting skills, and company knowledge
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Statistics, Applied Statistics, or a very similar degree program from an accredited college or university is required
  • 1-3 years of experience applying statistical techniques to real-world practical problems is desired
