The primary role of the Research Manager is to lead research projects, commissioned by P&L and Strategy Teams, that provide the data and insight need for both tactical/short term and strategic decision making.  The Research Manager has two secondary roles.  One is to support the development of Research Analysts in terms of research methods and skills, as well as project planning and execution.  The other is to help the P&L and Strategy Teams create and maintain as comprehensive, accessible, and up to date Fact Bases as possible.



Assist the Research Team Leader or Strategy Director, to design and launch research projects ensuring appropriate knowledge gaps are filled to support tactical and strategic decisions.

  • Identify potential sources of data, including pre-existing studies
  • Evaluate potential research methodologies for gathering particular types of data
  • Establish technical parameters for each research project
  • Scope projects, draft project charters and work plans for research projects
  • Identify and qualify external research vendors, including drafting RFPs, conducting initial negotiations with potential vendors and conducting comparative analyses of vendor proposals
  • Translate business issues into researchable business questions
  • Structure interviews that can provide definitive answers to business questions.
  • Lead the effort to gather the data, including
  • Conduct interviews with customers, subject matter experts, and provide interview guides for other Eastman employees
  • Manage research vendors on a day to day basis
  • Assembling the research data into well documented, easily searchable, accurate databases
  • Create clear, complete, and insightful reports and presentations
  • Ensure that all stakeholders understand the data, learnings, and insights 



  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university is required
  • 3+ years of primary/secondary research
  • Experience developing research strategies which provide useful insights to primary clients
