Eastman has an opening for a Research Chemist in the Polymers Development Laboratory of the Polymers Technology Division in Kingsport, Tennessee.  The selected individual will contribute to projects designed to grow existing business and develop new business within Eastman’s Polyester Platform.  The chemist will develop new and improved catalysts for polyesters, participate in the innovation of new polyester compositions, assist in scale-up of products from lab to commercial scale and provide technical support to manufacturing operations.  Project work will be conducted in the laboratory, pilot plant, and large-scale manufacturing facilities.



• Working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment to develop new technologies that provide solutions to customers' needs

• Executing technical projects, including conducting laboratory experiments at the bench and directing the work of technicians

• Collaborating with marketing and business partners to understand customer needs and provide technical solutions that are economically viable

• Engaging in technical support activities to enhance manufacturing operational excellence

• Documenting and communicating results and conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Identifying inventive aspects of new technology and working legal to capture and protect such intellectual property



Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry or Organometallic Chemistry from an accredited college or university.




* Practical knowledge of synthetic methods and laboratory experimentation techniques


* Demonstrated creativity and a desire to solve challenging and complex problems


* Strong project management and team leadership skills


* Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively in a team environment
