This posting is for a Research Chemist position in the Scale-up Chemistry Group within Eastman Chemical Company, located in Kingsport, Tennessee.

 

As a member of a high performing team within Eastman’s Scaleup & Process Innovation Division, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling synthetic routes to novel compounds.  Responsibilities also include:

 

• Analyze results, solve complex problems, document and present conclusions

• Work in and lead multidisciplinary teams (technology, manufacturing, business, marketing) to innovate and develop new commercial opportunities for Eastman

• Provide information to business organizations with respect to advances in key technologies and participate in the development of business organization technology strategies

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Required Degree: A Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Homogeneous Catalysis from an accredited college or university.

 

The candidate should also possess:

 

• A broad exposure to synthetic organic transformations

• Demonstrated creativity and a desire to solve challenging and complex problems

• Reaction mechanism and kinetics analysis experience

• A high level of initiative and self-motivation

• Ability to multitask and experience collaborating across disciplines

• Broad interests and willingness to take on relatively undefined challenges

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
