The Scale-Up Development Lab at Eastman has an immediate opening for a Color Measurement Expert:

 

Job Description:

• Deep understanding of the fundamentals of Color Measurement, color generation and spectroscopy

• Measure color in different formulations and physical forms.

• Develop and maintain analytical methods and measurements in control labs.

• Ability to develop new test methods as needed to test the physical and chemical properties of new chemical and polymer products.

• Design and execute studies with minimal supervision.

• Champion development of new technologies/methods and lead the efforts to implement them.

• Supervise skilled technicians in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.

• Review and write test methods and technical reports.

• Coordinate and ensure completion of projects through active engagement with internal partners.

• Participate on technical teams focused on corporate growth programs as well as efforts to improve quality/reliability of laboratory services.

• Work with Technical/Engineering Groups to develop and scale-up processes from lab-scale to production.

 

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

• Have a focus on safety and maintain a safe lab environment.

• Understanding of physical and chemical testing of polymers, fibers and additives.

• Understanding of experimental design and data analysis.

• Knowledge of SPC to evaluate test capability and provide input on setting control and specification limits.

• Understanding of microscopy and image analysis.

• Ability to work in a team environment with Manufacturing, Quality and Development groups.

• Results orientation for problem solving and understanding of chemical fundamentals is essential.

• Capable of managing short-term and long-term measurement needs while meeting key timelines where analytical data for product/process development or research and development projects are required.

• Should be an innovative and creative problem solver with strong scientific convictions and willingness to take risks.

• Should have clear and effective written and oral communication skills. Evidence of publication is a plus.

• Knowledge in additional orthogonal analytical techniques such as LC-MS, NMR and others is a plus.

 

Education:

PhD is required. 

PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Polymers, or Chemical Engineering from an Accredited University.
