Role Description
This position is responsible for the management and execution of Capital Project Estimating on assigned capital projects and has overall responsibility and accountability for the Estimating function as it supports both project related activities and Eastman's capital program.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare capital estimates for industrial construction projects, all types (order of magnitude, engineering forecast estimates, appropriation estimates, change orders, control estimates)
• Interface with project teams (inclusive of contract personnel and owner personnel) to understand project scope before estimating the project.
• Ability to read, interpret, and perform a manual take-off from engineering drawings.
• Present estimates to project team & project management that allow decisions to be made on corporate growth initiatives and corporate strategy as well as project approvals.
• Create, review, and validate domestic and international estimates for Eastman Chemical Company.
• Develop and maintain Aspen Capital Cost Estimator database and Eastman EstWeb system. Remain up to date and current on latest software technology and industry cost and estimating trends.
• Monitor escalation forecasts and inflationary pressures on capital costs.
• Ability to calculate, understand benchmarks, and communicate engineering and construction productivity metrics based on an estimate (ex. hrs/length of pipe, hrs/weight of steel).
• Perform qualitative and quantitative estimate validations.
• Conduct Risk Analyses on project estimates.
• Maintain estimating processes and procedures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and input for accurate project estimates.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in estimating methodologies.
• Identify and analyze cost-saving opportunities during the estimating process.
• Assist in the development of project budgets based on the estimated costs.
• Provide support in negotiating and reviewing vendor contracts and proposals.
• Conduct regular reviews and audits of estimating processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Assist in the development and implementation of standardized estimating templates and tools.
• Support the development of cost control measures and strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with finance and procurement teams to align estimating activities with budgeting and procurement processes.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators or team members.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the overall estimating function.
Basic Qualifications
• Strong understanding of project estimation techniques, methodologies and procedures.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, civil or chemical Engineering with 10-15 years’ experience in relevant EPC Project Estimation in Engineering / Manufacturing / Chemical / Oil and Gas firms.
• Hands-on experience on Aspen Capital Cost Estimator.
• Strong analytical & critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional research and reporting skills.
• Excellent collaborative skills and ability to maintain positive work relationships.
• Ability to stay up to date with market trends, movement, and innovations.
• Good communication skills for presenting new ideas and strategies that can improve current planning processes.
