Responsibilities

Technical Manager – Chestertown, Maryland

The technical manager is responsible for management of the site’s engineering team, maintenance department and for providing technical guidance to production and utilities operations. These responsibilities include but are not limited to safely maintaining reliable equipment throughout the site and lead the engineering team to complete both capital and non-capital projects to improve safety, reliability, and cost improvements. This position requires organizational skills to coordinate contractor activities when necessary.  This position is a part of the Site Leadership Team and requires skills to coordinate activities with corporate resources and technical expertise. This position reports to the Site Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead with a Zero-Incident mindset and support the site process safety management system (PSM) including maintaining process safety information for completion of required PHA’s
  • Complete required monthly BBS observations and life critical safety audits
  • Coach and mentor direct reports using the corporate PMP system to identify responsibilities, establish career goals, provide opportunities for development and growth and to reward appropriate performance and/or mentor to correct deficiencies
  • Actively involved in hiring and onboarding efforts that include recruiting, screening, interviewing, mentoring and coaching activities
  • Provide leadership as capital coordinator for project related cost and efficiency improvements including all capital projects
  • Ensure that all projects and equipment conform to Eastman corporate standards 
  • Work with offsite resources when necessary to assist with process and project engineering and implementation activities
  • Ensure that site mechanical and electrical systems are adequately maintained including the mechanical integrity program, critical spare inventories, and equipment vendor inspections etc.
  • Represent the site on corporate teams as necessary

 

Skills and Knowledge required for the position:

  • Experience in a PSM facility and batch plant operations
  • Knowledge of process equipment and process design
  • Capability to plan and manage capital projects and schedules
  • Knowledge of equipment specifications and standards such as ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA etc.
  • Understanding of Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Understanding of Six Sigma
  • Experience with SAP maintenance program
  • General computer skills such as Microsoft Office
  • Good organization and communication skills with the ability to solicit input and support of others at various levels in the organization
  • Some knowledge of Stage Gate Capital Work systems
     

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution is required for this position.  A professional engineering license is preferred but not required.

Required Experience:

Ten to fifteen years of operations, projects, and other leadership positions in the chemical, petrochemical, or similar industry with demonstrated leadership skills
