Responsibilities

 

This position is located at Eastman's Chestertown, Maryland manufacturing facility. It is a hands-on position, working in the plant to apply learned skills to a variety of batch/continuous chemical processes and plant utility equipment.

 

As the Staff Engineer, you'll provide technical support for a batch manufacturing plant. You'll use a broad range of chemical engineering skills on projects that range from small to large in both scope and cost. Projects may be urgent in support of manufacturing process problems, or long-range study projects to improve efficiency or reliability of operations. You'll partner closely with others in Engineering, Maintenance, and Manufacturing Operations to achieve objectives and to become an expert in the manufacturing processes. This position will report to the Assistant Site Manager. 

 

A typical assignment will involve defining a problem, developing an understanding of the process and solution requirements, organizing and performing experimental work, analyzing data, drawing of a conclusion, developing and presenting solution options, writing associated technical communication and providing recommendations associated with the project.  Depending on project scope, you may work individually or as part of a larger team as a project leader.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform process-oriented technical work to improve the manufacture of plasticizers used to produce various automotive and building & construction products
  • Provide tecchnical assistance to manufacturing area and other plant groups
  • Ensure PSM, health, safety, and environmental concerns for projects have been addressed
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, problem formulation and solution, engineering and statistical analysis, and basic equipment design or specification
  • Execute projects as part of a team, as a team leader, or independently.  Manage project portfolio based on economic and business inputs to priority.
  • Analyze technical possibilities for solving process problems and developing new processes
  • Analyze and document the economic value of proposed process solutions and new process concepts
  • Implementation of logic in the DeltaV DCS (training will be provided)
  • The position involves a combination of troubleshooting immediate process problems, solving those problems in a timely fashion, and then working to understand, develop, test, and implement preventive solutions
  • Projects may involve optimizing and de-bottlenecking existing processes as well as developing new processes/products

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. Chemical Engineering highly preferred, but other engineering disicplines will be considered with appropriate chemical manufacturing experience.
  • At least 2 years of chemical engineering experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment a plus
  • Experience with any of the following systems a plus: DCS (DeltaV), PI Process Book, Statistical Analysis Tools
  • Data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills

 

 

The base salary range for this position is $80,000 to 110,000. ​
